The Apprentice Crane Technician position provides on-the-job training and experience under the guidance of qualified Crane Technicians. The role is based out of the Edmonton branch, with extensive travel required across Canada and North America to service various industries. This apprenticeship involves a balance of mechanical and electrical tasks, emphasizing safety, learning, and adherence to industry standards. This position is hands-on in a technical field, offering a unique opportunity to develop electrical and mechanical skills in a real-world setting.
The full time (40 hours per week) and permanent appointed Apprentice Electrician / Crane Service Technician will be required to complete the following duties:
Responsibilities
- Actively learn from senior technicians through hands-on work and applying knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of overhead cranes under the supervision of a qualified technician.
- Assist in the documentation of maintenance and repair activities, including detailing the work done on cranes and updating service records.
- Gain proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and safety regulations.
- Handle and maintain tools and equipment used in crane maintenance and repair, ensuring they are in good condition and stored properly.
- Understand and adhere to all workplace safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate safety gear and following best practices while on the job.
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems and contributing to the development of solutions under experienced technicians' guidance.
Requirements
Applicant must have:
- Registered electrical apprentice (1st year) or willingness to register; consideration given to other trade apprentices.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to learn technical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record and no criminal history.
Work Conditions
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions.
- Handle physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working at heights up to 125 feet.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout Canada and North America.
