Assistant Cider Maker And Distiller

Spy cider house and Distillery is looking for an Assistant Cider Maker and Distiller. The cidery operates on an 80 acre organic apple orchard. Onsite we press all our fruit for fermenting and distilling. We make ciders, perries, gin, vodka and brandies. Under new ownership in 2023, we are dreaming up how to continue the Spy story and looking forward to future creations.

This job will be great for a real all-arounder, as many small businesses are. Some days will be distilling gin, and others will be out in the orchard picking fruit. A wonderful opportunity for learning and collaboration. A chance to make excellent ciders and spirits, and work with a really solid team.

The role will consist of three main elements: Cider maker, Distiller, Orchard Operations

Job requirements:

• Fermentation, distilling, bottling and production
• Physical capability to execute production processes, lift tank lids, move equipment
• Ladder work
• Lab work and record keeping
• Cleaning production area
• Pruning, picking apples
• Pressing fruit
• Tasting and analysis of products
• Assist with events and tastings as availability allows
• Curiosity about ciders and spirits, styles, and flavors
• Ability to work in wet and hot/cold environments for extended periods of time
• Proper use of personal protective gear to ensure safety of self and others
• Safely operate tractor and forklift– training/certification will be provided onsite
• Driver’s license required

• Experience in beverage production
• Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
• Knowledge of modern cidery and Distillery systems and controls
• Comfortable working both independently and on a team
• Effective interpersonal and electronic communication skills
• Organizational and time management skills
• Horticultural and/or farming knowledge
