Northwood is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Controller to work with the Finance team.
Reporting to the Corporate Controller,
Major Responsibilities:
- Assume increasing responsibility for financial statements, budget, budget support, general ledger, cost accounting, decision support, accounts payable, accounts receivable and tax compliance issues
- Key liaison with auditors during the annual audit process
- Provide financial advice to the organization's managers
- Obtain good working knowledge of accounting processes for all divisions
- Support and contribute to the ongoing development of systems and processes to enhance management reporting and budgeting processes
- Develop and empower staff; supports a culture of change; enhance teamwork with a focus on client support and efficiency
- Develop and control accounting activities to ensure the protection of company operations and assets
Tasks Include:
- Coordinates monthly financial and operational reports, annual financial reports, audit activities, and other reports and requests; ensures usefulness, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting; prepares any special financial reports as required
- Assists with the preparation of annual budgets; once approved, works to implement budgets
- Maintains knowledge of relevant generally accepted accounting practices; researches new accounting issues; maintains knowledge of relevant HST requirements
- Performs financial and business analysis in relation to any proposals or new business ventures
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in Accounting or Finance
- Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA)
- Three to five years of related accounting experience including previous supervisory experience
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office & accounting software
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours and travel between Northwood locations
- Ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis

Salary: As per the Northwood Scale
Hours: 80 hours bi-weekly
