Attendant Services Worker / Caregiver (Afternoon/Evening)
Independent Living Waterloo Region is looking to hire an Attendant Services Worker / Caregiver to provide in-home care to people with disabilities at our assisted living sites, and community outreach in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge. POSITION SUMMARY
As an Attendant Services Worker / Caregiver, you are passionate about helping people in our community who experience disabilities. Your day consists of providing our clients assistance with the activities of daily living. You help them with their personal care routines, such as grooming, toileting, bathing, and oral maintenance. You also perform some light housekeeping, linen changes, and meal preparation. If a client needs therapeutic intervention, you assist with range-of-motion therapy, breathing assistance, or whatever other procedures are listed in the client's care plan.
Please note that both a driver's license and a personal vehicle is required for this position.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES
- Providing total personal care such as toileting, bathing, and perineal care.
- Grooming, including oral care
- Assist consumer with dressing and undressing
- Assist in feeding consumers who are unable to feed themselves
- Support good skin care to prevent skin breakdown (i.e. turn and reposition client, actively encourage movement)
- Breathing Assistance (e.g. tracheostomy, respirator)
- Assist client with active and passive range of motions as defined by the care plan.
- Provide consumer with help walking and transferring
- Assist consumer in the self-administration of medication.
- Perform light housekeeping
- Perform meal preparation and clean up
- Change bed linens and make up the consumers bed
- Maintain an orderly client environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma
- Certification in CPR and first aid OR a willingness to become certified
- G2 or G Class Driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a willingness to travel to our service areas. (ex. Assisted Living Sites and/or Community Outreach)
- Food Safety Certification OR willingness to become certified
- Proof of full COVID-19 immunization
- Experience working with persons with disabilities or in convalescent care.
- Willing to work in home-care environment that may include exposure to bodily fluids, household cleaners, pets, and fluctuating room temperature.
A completed home service worker (HSW) or personal service worker (PSW) certificate would be preferred, but experience working/volunteering related fields is also considered. JOB DETAILS
Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 30-40 Hrs/Week
Primary Location: Kitchener and Surrounding Area
Starting Wage: $18.75/Hour + $3/Hour pandemic temporary wage enhancement on direct service hours
WORK SCHEDULE
This position works a rotating schedule afternoons, evenings, and alternating weekends, for example: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm.
