The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in B.C. The Ministry is responsible for regional and province-wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.
TheManager, Occupational Health & Safetyis accountable for providing planning, expert advice, training and leadership in the development of a comprehensive ministry Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program including Occupational First Aid, Targeted Threat Assessments, Critical Incident Reporting, Ergonomics, Prevention of Violence in the Workplace, and establishment and operation of Joint Health & Safety Committees (JOHS). The incumbent provides expert advice on compliance with legislative requirements including interpretation of policies and guidelines and consulting with supervisors/managers on accident prevention programs or strategies/targeted interventions to reduce Short Term Illness and Injury Plan (STIIP) usage, WorkSafe BC (WSBC) or Long Term Disability (LTD) claims.
Job Requirements:
  • Related university degree; OR
  • Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program Diploma or Certificate, from an accredited institution of education and 2+ years *demonstrated experience;OR
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and/or training in a related fieldMAYbe considered.

*Demonstrated experience must include at least two (2) years in each of the following:
  • Program development, implementation and maintenance, including policy and procedure development while operating within a legislative and regulatory framework.
  • Leading incident investigations related to employee and worksite safety, including the assessment of magnitude severity, risks and impacts on employee and worksite.
  • Interpretation, application, and compliance of OHS programs and activities in relation to Acts and Regulations, collective agreements, government policies and OHS best practices.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Completion of "Threat Assessment and Management" training, or a recognized equivalent course.
  • Experience working within Human Resources in a large, unionized environment.
  • Experience developing, and facilitating adult training sessions, virtually and in-person, for small and large groups (e.g. OHS committee training, Ergonomic Assessment training, Violence Risk Assessment Training, Incident Investigation Training and Emergency Warden training).

This is a temporary opportunity until February 28, 2025. The temporary opportunity may be extendedORa permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Flexible work options are available;this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
Travel will be a requirement of this position.
This position is excluded from union membership.
