Board Member

Job Skills is seeking new Board candidates to serve a three-year term to help lead us through ongoing strategic growth and development.  We are looking for candidates with professional leadership experience who are passionate about our Mission and who have a desire to be engaged and to learn while contributing proven experience and skills.

Job Skills, a non-profit charitable community-based employment, and training organization has successfully delivered employment solutions for 30+ years across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and neighbouring regions. Today, the agency provides employment, employer, business, and newcomer services and programs in York and Peel Regions and Simcoe County.

Board of Directors:

Job Skills’ Board is a governing board, which provides planning, program and policy advice to the Organization and delegates the implementation of such advice to the staff through the Executive Director.  The Board is comprised of a maximum of twelve members who reflect the interests of the regions served by Job Skills and possess the appropriate skill sets to support the objectives of the Organization. 

New Directors shall be elected to serve for one three-year term, after which, if re-elected, their terms shall be for a period of one year each.  

Notwithstanding, no Director can serve on the Board for more than six consecutive years or subject to the conditions of legislation.  

The Board typically meets eight to nine times per year in person for approximately 2.5 – 3 hours.  In addition to attendance and preparation for the meetings, Directors are expected to serve on two of the Board Standing Committees and attend meetings as required and perform associated work.  As well it is ideal if Board members attend Agency events as scheduling permits.  

The Board is responsible for directing and protecting the interests of Job Skills, including: 

.  Developing Board structure, processes and succession planning, as well as recruitment of new Board Directors

.  In conjunction with Job Skills’ Senior Management Team, developing and monitoring the Strategic Plan, which includes the Mission, Vision and Values and Beliefs.  
Directors will actively participate in strategic planning for the agency typically every three years

.  Selecting, monitoring, mentoring, supporting and evaluating the Executive Director annually and ensuring that the Executive Director is performing effectively

.  Undertaking succession planning for the Executive Director and ensuring a process is in place for succession planning for the rest of the members of the Senior Management Team (SMT).

.  Maintaining and developing itself through development and other training opportunities

.  Contributing to the positive image of the Organization

.  Maintaining fiscal oversight and accountability, to ensure fiscal integrity of the Organization

.  Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, legislation and internal and external policy.
