The YMCA of Central East Ontario is accepting applications to serve on the Regional Board of Directors.
About the YMCA Board of Directors
YMCA Board Members serve as policy volunteers and act as stewards on behalf of the YMCA. Members serve 3 year terms. Board meetings occur 6-8 times per year.
All Board Members will be required to join one of five Board Committees: Audit, Finance & Investment,
Governance & Nominating, Capital Facility Development, Financial Development or Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Successful candidates must have a commitment to provide guidance, based on a policy governance model structure, to the CEO.
The Role of the YMCA of Central East Ontario Board Members
- To ensure that the YMCA of Central East Ontario fulfills its responsibilities, operates effectively and acts in accordance with the principles of being ethical & accountable, collaborative, open & responsive, integrated & convergent, and proactive.
- To set and monitor the strategic plan for the YMCA of Central East Ontario.
- To foster the growth of the YMCA of Central East Ontario.
- To Support the mission, vision, values, strategic plan, policies and goals of the YMCA of Central East Ontario.
Responsibilities of a YMCA of Central East Ontario Board Member
- Attend meetings approximately once a month, on the fourth Wednesday evening of each month.
- Prepare for and participate in board meetings.
- Support substantive discussion and sound decision making to help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.
- Be an Ambassador of the YMCA of Central East Ontario in the communities we serve.
- To fully support the YMCAs philanthropic goals by contributing to annual, capital, and /or endowment campaigns based on capacity to give, and to assist in acquiring other community donations.
Eligibility Criteria and Condition of Nomination
All candidates shall:
1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Not be employed by the YMCA of Central East Ontario.
3. Respect, understand and be committed to the mission, vision and values of the YMCA.
4. Be eligible for membership.

The Governance and Nominating Committee is seeking Board nominees with one or more of the following skill sets:
- Applicants from Diverse Backgrounds
- Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Social Inclusion
- Experience Working with Marginalized and Indigenous Population
- Community Leader
- Experience working with Local, Provincial and Federal Governments
- Experience in Philanthropy, Fundraising and Sponsorship
- Experience in Construction and Building
- Connections to Business Community Through Personal and/or Professional Networks
- Understanding of Community Partnerships
- Geographic, Cultural, Gender, Age, Diversity that reflects the nature of our communities
- Charitable/Not for Profit Governance Experience
