Accountability: This position is accountable to the Library Director
Overtime Status: This position is a management position and thus exempt from provincial overtime legislative requirements. The Assistant Director/ Branch Manager oversees all functions related to the branches of Wheatland Regional Library ensuring a high level of public library service across the region. This position is a senior management position answering to and working closely with the Library Director or designate. In the absence of the Library Director this position may assume the duties of the Library Director. Fieldwork/travel is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Library Director:
Responsible for developing and leading a high-performance team of branch staff to deliver library services within the region, creating a patron service orientated culture that demonstrates, through action, the region’s values and priorities. Provides effective management and supervision of the in-scope Central Staff including training, coaching, performance management, conflict resolution, health and safety, and discipline as per the CBA. As a member of the Management team, contributes to the development and execution of the strategic plan. Responds to patron complaints and feedback within the region. Evaluates regional goals and adjusts strategic targets according to outcomes. Compiles statistics and analyzes usage trends. Identifies, develops and manages grant opportunities and special projects. Provides and coordinate ongoing training, including workshops for Branch Librarians. Serves as an advisor to the Library Director in strategic planning and enhancement of library services. Collection development including policies, selection and on-going maintenance as required. Acts as a liaison to local library boards.
Qualifications, knowledge, and skills:
Post graduate university degree in library or information science from an accredited program. Previous library management experience of a progressively more responsible nature. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a diverse group of people. Experience leading and coaching staff in a unionized workplace. Strong project management and strategic thinking abilities. Ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation, and research skills. Demonstrate experience delivering goals that support the strategic priorities of an organization. Previous experience with collection management. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including tact and diplomacy. Ability to sustain cooperative, productive relationships with staff and patrons. Experience working with a Board of Directors is an asset. A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive throughout the region as required. Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the employer will be required.
Remuneration:
Salary: $80,542-$90,550
