Position Title: Hydrocarbon Accounting Supervisor

Team and Location: Specialist, Business Intelligence - Calgary, AB

Salary: $127,000/year 

Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Manager, Process Improvement, the Specialist, Business Intelligence is instrumental in developing, managing and improving the entire data analytics lifecycle, from data collection, transformation to visualization and automation as well as robust practices and standards that enable effective, data-informed decision making. The role will work closely with Subject Matter Experts across multiple business units to understand business requirements and develop data models and visualizations for the Finance Shared Services Organization and its various clients across all Parkland global locations. The Specialist, Business Intelligence will play a key role in setting data governance, standards, processes, systems and reporting improvements, and work with stakeholders to drive effectiveness, efficiency, and transparency.

Key Responsibilities: 

Data Analytics

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, communicating and improving standards and best practices for data management for every aspect of data analytics lifecycle.
  • Responsible for analysis, translation and documentation of business requirements to technical and system functional requirements for data analytics/Business Intelligence solution development.
  • Ensure data analytics/Business Intelligence solutions align with organizational objectives, processes, direction, and architectural strategies.
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop performance measurement frameworks to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of various business process.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure data integrity and facilitate seamless integration of analytics solutions into existing systems and processes.
  • Improve management of existing data, data analysis and visualizations.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities related to data management and digital automation.

Data Visualization / Report Creation, Improvement and Maintenance

  • Analyze high volumes of transactional data to drive insights while providing regular and ad-hoc strategic reporting and analysis to key partners and stakeholders.
  • Transform and synthesize raw data using data visualizations and dashboards tailored to the audience/user; tell a narrative around the data to highlight insights, synthesize conclusions, and ultimately drive actionable business insights.
  • Automate existing MS Excel reports into other platforms such as Power BI or similar.

Client Service & Experience

  • Provide training and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous learning within the organization.
  • Support incident management, provide assistance with diagnosis and resolution of data related inquiries and issues.
  • Act as liaison for internal contacts related to the data analytics/ Business Intelligence tools and provide Subject Matter Expert knowledge for business requests.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Commerce with Major in IT or similar. Master degree in same areas is considered an asset.
  • Proven experience (10-12+ years) in data analytics, Business Intelligence, or a similar role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a BI delivery role.
  • Strong expertise all aspects of the data analytics lifecycle including data mining & collection, data cleanse and transformation, analysis data visualization.
  • Demonstrated experience with Power BI, Power Automate and Excel, Power BI certification is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge in ERP systems (i.e., JDE, SAP).
  • Knowledge of Sale and Operational systems (i.e., PDI, Infosys, Get Paid) will be an asset.
  • Expert level proficiency in SQL for data and database management and query optimization.
  • Intermediate experience in M-code (Power Query), DAX, and SQL.
  • Solid understanding of data engineering principles, including data modeling, data warehousing, and data quality.
  • Ability to guide and educate end users on implemented BI solutions as well as support and troubleshoot any business BI related concerns or issues.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse Lifecycle and Dimensional Modeling experience with Other Business Intelligence software would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to effectively tell a story through data and clearly communicate findings for non-technical audiences.
  • Continuous Improvement mindset and experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Self-starter, analytical and critical thinker who is not intimidated by complex problems, large datasets, and new tools.
  • Experience working in an environment driven by defined SLA (Service Level Agreements) and following strict timelines.
  • Demonstrated capability to serve the business as a highly valued customer.
