Job Summary

The Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Program of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) provides specialized community-based Mental Health services to infants, children, youth and their families in BC. This includes services that provide Mental Health treatment/support, reduce risk, build family and community capacity and resiliency, and focus upon improved performance consistent with evidence-informed practices. It aligns with the MCFD Strategic Plan 2018-2021 and with work led by the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, including A Pathway to Hope: A roadmap for making Mental Health and addictions care better for people in British Columbia to guide the transformation of BC's Mental health system of care.
The Mental Health Nurse Consultant functions in a dynamic and changing environment within the child and youth mental program and the ministry as a whole. The position must establish and maintain links with diverse partners at a provincial and regional level across a broad child and youth service delivery system.
Responsibilities include development of policies, standards and practice guidelines for the MCFD child and youth Mental Health program; consultation and support to service delivery and provincial office teams; and policy support for actions within ministry and government strategic plans that support improved child and youth Mental Health. The position provides expertise and leadership in the following: policy analysis and development, issues management; providing a variety of planning, training and evaluation services to the division; assisting with strategic planning; providing advice and assistance on the interpretation and implementation of policy, plans and procedures and preparing briefing notes, background materials, reports, correspondence on a variety of issues; and specialized consultation.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Nursing and registered to practice nursing under the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the Closing Date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in the field of child and youth Mental Health.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in increasingly responsible positions (e.g., supervision, leading projects/committees).
  • Experience working directly with children and youth with a range of Mental Health challenges and disorders.
  • Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience in policy development, analysis and/or implementation.

Preference may be given for:
  • Master's Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Experience working with, and providing presentations, advice and recommendations to executive level staff.
  • Experience working in the public sector, e.g., preparing briefing/information notes, leading cross-sector committees or working groups.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

This is a full-time temporary opportunity to February 21, 2025 that may be extended or may become permanent.Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
This position can be performed from any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
