Summary:
The Casual worker will provide coverage to various position in the Transition House and works as a member of the Hope & Area Transition Society providing support through goal setting and guidance, education, information, and referrals to women with or without children who are dealing with personal abuse. The Casual/Relief Person provides coverage in Transition House on an as-needed basis to cover open shifts, some of which may occur with only last-minute notice.
Job Title: Relief Support Worker (1 opening)
Hours of Work: As required, within a 3-8 hour shifts per day, 7 day a week operation
Location of Work: Confidential Location (Hope, BC)
Rate of Pay: JJEP Wage Grid 10 (BCGEU union position), $25.05 starting wage with 10.6% in lieu of benefits.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
- Diploma in related human services or social service field
- One-year combination of education and experience in the Social Services Sector either paid or volunteer basis
- Knowledge and understanding of guidance, goal setting and appropriate emotional responses
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- The ability to work well within a team environment
- Valid and Unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s license and use of own vehicle for transportation is required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to conduct client intake and assessment
- Strong understanding of the dynamics of abuse and gender violence
- Able to assess residents’ immediate needs and assist them in defining / implementing an action plan
- Able to monitor and ensure the safety and comfort of the women and children residents and the security of the facility
- Able to maintain confidentiality as well as maintain a high degree of professional boundaries
- Proven ability to provide emotional support to clients through active listening, and validating emotions
- Experience working with individuals facing multiple barriers and delivering programming through a trauma informed lens
- Able to work with diverse clientele, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness
- Able to respond to phone calls in crisis situations
- Strong knowledge about the dynamics of abuse, sexual assault, historical sexual abuse, criminal harassment, trauma and attachment theory
- Proficient computer literacy with database programs and strong communication and record keeping skills to maintain accurate, and appropriate file notes
