Job description

Aseniwuche Winewak Group of Companies (AGC), located in Grande Cache, Alberta, is comprised of two corporations: Aseniwuche Development Corporation (ADC) and Aseniwuche Environmental Corporation (AEC). ADC offers general contracting, metal fabrication and automotive services to its clientele and AEC provides environmental protection solutions. AGC is fully owned by Aseniwuche Winewak Nation of Canada (AWN). A Fellowship of Aboriginal People, AWN is a Cree-speaking people whose ancestors thrived in the Rocky Mountains and continue to live a distinctive cultural way of life. This exciting opportunity is based out of its primary office in Grande Cache, AB, with the possibility of working a hybrid work model.

As a strategic business partner, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will direct the financial operations of AWN and AGC with responsibility for providing leadership in the areas of accounting, corporate reporting, taxation, regulatory compliance, finance, development, strategic analysis, and planning of new business opportunities Reporting to the President/CEO, the CFO sets goals, monitors work, and evaluates results to ensure organizational objectives and financial requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the Nation.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Through on-going communication with AWN, ADC/AEC Board of Directors, oversee and develop respective strategic financial planning processes, and ensure that organizational specific objectives are aligned with the overall vision, mission, purpose, and core values.
  • Establish an effective working relationship with the President/CEO, the Board of Directors, and its associated committees.
  • Sit as an active member on Committees as required and attend Board meetings.
  • Report to the AWN, ADC/AEC Boards on respective financial performance by communicating monthly on achievement of financial objectives as well as emerging issues, potential threats, risks, and significant opportunities.
  • Make recommendations for improvement of existing and lead the development of new financial processes, systems, reporting, policies and other control functions.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivables, payroll; supervise financial record keeping and reporting systems to ensure safekeeping of financial documents.
  • Encourage initiatives that promote long-lasting relationships with community members, community organizations, employees, customers, government, business partners, vendors, and regulators (i.e., certifying organizations and inspectors).
  • Encourage and facilitate communication between ADC and AEC leadership teams to build trust, enable cooperation, and improve information flow with a view to improving service delivery by eliminating duplication and overlapping of functions and tasks.
  • Prepare and issue of all corporate reporting requirements including but not limited to: Quarterly and Annual Reports and all other regulatory disclosure requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal and external audit activities.
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual budget process.
  • Develop and monitor long range plans to support the overall growth objectives of the Company including the evaluation of potential acquisitions.
  • Provide financial advice and support to Senior management.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators and linkages to performance management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience at a senior management level with at least 5 years at a supervisory level.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Well-rounded business background with relevant experience in construction, oil and gas or mining industries.
  • Knowledge of AWN culture and/or Cree language is an asset.
  • Proficiency working with accounting software, MS Office Suite and advanced excel skills.
