Job description

Located in Vermilion, Alberta, the Vermilion & District Housing Foundation (VDHF) has been providing affordable housing and accommodation at Vermilion Valley Lodge (“the Lodge”) to seniors and families in the Town of Vermilion and County of Vermilion River since April 11, 1960. The Town is well situated within short driving distance to surrounding lakes, ponds, river system, walking trails and is nestled along the beautiful Vermilion River Valley. It is a great place to put down roots and raise a family in a peaceful friendly community.

The Foundation employs a full-time management team, Registered Nurse, professional Health Care Aides, maintenance personnel, Recreation Therapists, a Housekeeping and Laundry team, and provides on-site professional facilities management teams who maintain our Lodge Independent Retirement community, Supportive Housing community and government housing portfolios.

Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The CFO is key member of the Executive Management Team and is responsible for financial transactions, analysing and reviewing financial data, tracking financial performance, preparing budgets, monitoring expenditures and costs, and creating financial reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Responsible for financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, inventory control, purchase order management and financial controls

· Track budget variances and manage financial expenditures to support budget compliance

· Provide financial data and analysis to support effective decision making

· Ensures compliance with a set of current and complete financial systems, controls, and procedures

· Ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulations

· Provides accurate and timely financial reporting

· Manage, mentor and coach Office Administrator

· Responsible for day-to-day financial transactions, including: cash management, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash

· Oversee all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner, and source deductions are remitted to CRA

· Lead the development of the annual budget in consultation with the senior leadership team

· Support the development of long-term capital and operational plans

· Complete annual reporting and leads the annual audit process

· Responsible for asset and asset depreciation tracking, and replacement plans

· Responsible for maintaining a current and effective financial software system

· Attends Board of Directors meetings and provides advice to the Board on financial matters

· Support tenant management through the collection of monthly rents and tracking outstanding balances.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· An accounting designation with five years of progressive experience in a senior leadership role

· Detail oriented, analytical, organized, strong work ethic, and problem-solving skills.

· Superior relationship skills and consulting skills with ability to influence change.

· High business acumen and strong analytical skills.

· Exceptional communication skills and adapting communication styles, effective listening, and excellent writing and presentation skills.

· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and use high levels of diplomacy and tact.

· Excellent software application skills, including experience with accounting and payroll software

· Experience in a not-for-profit environment is an asset

· Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check).

· Must have received two-doses of a Covid-19 vaccination series approved by Health Canada. Vaccination is a condition of employment for new hires, except when impossible due to legitimate, established exceptions.
