Job description

Intelligent City is an urban housing technology company that takes a product and platform-based approach to buildings. We combine exceptional design with mass timber construction, robotic manufacturing, and parametric software. Our mission is to build smarter and to empower people to live better. We create a new value paradigm for housing and workplace solutions that are more affordable, faster to build, consistently carbon neutral and socially resilient.

Our motto is ‘Build Smarter. Live Better. Think Change.’ If this resonates with you, we encourage you to apply to join our team and help us build a better world!

About You:
As our CFO, you will have the unique opportunity to work in an innovative environment where you can make a real impact and share our appetite for innovation and commitment to excellence.
You will be an ideal candidate for this role if you have led efforts to raise capital for amounts more than $50 million and are comfortable working with complex financial models and balance sheets at scale. You likely gained your experience from a larger organization, but are excited by the idea of joining an organization where you can contribute your wealth of knowledge and play a critical role in shaping the financial future of the company as we expand and grow our business. Additional bonus points if you have come from a complex manufacturing environment, with large-scale commercial products, or another industry that produces big things.
We are an ambitious early growth stage company fueled by a collective passion to disrupt and redefine industry standards. If you’re a strategic and seasoned financial leader with a flair for startup dynamics and a history of driving operational success, we invite you to join us on an exciting journey and help us change the world, one building at a time.

The Role:
As CFO of a product manufacturing company transitioning from startup to scaling up with dynamic growth in a multi-factory setup and market expansion, you will hold the highest level of fiscal responsibility within the organization. You and your team will be integral in providing timely and accurate financial information to inform strategic decision-making. You provide strategic financial advice to the CEO and Board and will be responsible for developing and implementing robust financial strategies and complex scenario planning to enable highly informed decision-making in a company that makes ‘large widgets’ in a cyclical industry and typically uneven project flow. Your responsibilities will include managing fundraising efforts, including government grants and investor relations, planning and managing annual operating and capital budgets. You will also hold some responsibilities of a COO, including corporate secretary, intellectual property, and legal matters.

Executive Leadership

  • Provide financial insights and advice to support the CEO and Board in making informed strategic decisions.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy aligned with company growth and expansion plans
  • Analyze financial performance, identify growth opportunities, and manage risks.
  • Review, refine, and streamline finance procedures for efficiency.
  • Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and reports while minimizing unnecessary costs.
  • Closely collaborate with operations, supply chain and manufacturing team.
  • Lead successful implementation of our ERP system.
  • Drive financial planning and analysis to support fundraising efforts.
  • Lead efforts to raise capital, including identifying and engaging potential investors, building and maintaining relationships.
  • Evaluate and recommend optimal capital structures to support business objectives.
  • Present compelling financial and strategic information to investors.
  • Lead the due diligence process, ensuring all financial documentation is accurate and readily available.
  • Conduct internal due diligence to address potential investor concerns.
  • Determine an appropriate and competitive valuation for the funding round.
  • Negotiate investment terms and conditions with potential investors.
  • Oversee the drafting and execution of all legal agreements related to the investment.
  • Work closely with legal counsel to ensure compliance and favorable terms.
  • Provide regular and transparent financial reporting to investors, board members, and executive leadership.
  • Monitor and manage financial performance to maximize return on investment.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting standards.
  • Establish and maintain investor communication and reporting mechanisms.
  • Lead the planning and execution of the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, industry standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Work with external auditors to complete audit processes.
  • Lead and manage the finance team, setting clear goals and fostering a positive work culture.
  • Prepare documentation and presentations for the Board of Directors.
  • Administer the company stock option plan.
  • Develop ESG strategies and programs.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of assets and protection of Intellectual Property.
  • Ensure our insurance coverage is appropriate and sufficient across all aspects of the business.
  • Liaise with company lawyers for business legal matters.
  • Facilitate coordination and management of our workspaces and facilities operations, including vendor relationships, building maintenance, and ongoing office space requirements.
  • Providing oversight and strategic leadership for our manufacturing facility, including oversight and reporting of KPI’s for operational progress.

Compensation:

  • In return, we offer a compensation package that includes stock options in our company. That means you'll have a direct stake in our success, with the potential for significant financial rewards as we continue to grow and disrupt our industry.
