Overview: The CFO provides leadership, vision and direction to the clients financial services and is part of the finance team doing data entry. They support teamwork, and builds morale within the department and throughout the agency as a whole through staff interactions with financial services. The Manager provides advice and counsel to the leadership team and to the finance team on accounting procedures, assists with problem solving and makes recommendations to improve accounting and/or financial systems and practices. They work closely with the CEO and the Finance Committee of the board of directors. They ensure all financial services meet the accountability standards required by funders and accrediting bodies. They ensure the agency's financial services are managed in such a way that the strategic goals of the agency and the outcomes requirements of the agency and funder are met. They plan and administers all accounting, cost control and budgeting systems for the client and its subsidiary societies and corporations. They provide records of assets, liabilities and financial transactions and produces financial statements, reports and summaries for all entities. They ensure the reporting requirements of the funders are met and are timely and accurate. They ensures that the Board of Directors and management have access to regular financial reports in a timely manner. The CFO is responsible for oversight of payroll and benefits as well as for the processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable. They review contracts from funders for accuracy and ensures funds received match expectations. They provide information as required to support all human resources and labour relations processes.
What you will be doing:- The CFO does data entry, plans, organizes and directs the provision of all financial services for both non-profit and for profit.
- Participates as a member of the senior leadership team in developing long range and strategic plans for the client and its subsidiaries. Works with the financial services team to ensure the fulfilment of the strategic goals and objectives set out in the plan. Actively participates and cooperates with other members of the leadership team to resolve and implement operational and administrative issues.
- Together with the senior leadership team develops financial policies and practices that are in keeping with the mission, vision and values of the client. Ensures all policy is signed off and approved by the CEO.
- Maintains accounts and/or supervises and directs staff to produce and provide timely, accurate reliable and meaningful accounting information
- Monitors expenditures, journal and ledger entries, bank statements, account activity and other accounting and financial records. Ensures financial recording accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting standards and internal control procedures. Investigates and corrects or reports unusual or questionable entries or account balances. Reports updates to the CEO and Board Finance Committee or delegates.
- Oversees the completion of accounts payable and receivable records and reports. Ensures collection of accounts receivable and accuracy of revenue received for contracted services.
- In collaboration with The Director of Operations supports the oversight of the payroll department. Ensures completion of payroll according to established timelines that meet the requirements of the Collective Agreement.
- Prepares financial reports and summaries as required by the CEO and the finance committee of the Board of Directors. Makes recommendations to improve individual, departmental or organization accounting and management practices and/or systems to the CEO and the Board Finance Committee. Follows through on decisions made and reports back on progress. Ensures departmental and organization staff are trained and aware of accounting systems, standards and expectations.
- Ensures monthly analysis of accounts and budget variances are prepared and reported. Analyzes results and/or discusses major variances with the responsible Program Manager and/or the CEO. Assists the CEO to follow up to ensure adequate resources are available to meet program commitments.
- Prepares monthly financial statements for all program areas and ensures they are available to all program leaders in a timely manner. Coaches leaders in understanding, monitoring and managing their program budgets. Ensures each manager/ coordinator has a system is in place to monitor and review all statements on a monthly basis to ensure budgets are on track and any over expenditures and shortfalls are addressed. Establishes a meeting schedule with each leader to support this work.
- Prepares reports to meet the contractual requirements of each program as required and ensures these meet funder expectations and timelines i.e. CLBC/MCFD service hour reports where required, etc
- Participates as an active member of the Finance Committee. Prepares and reviews monthly operational financial reports highlighting the current financial status of the agency and any changes impacting this status. Brings forward recommendations for planned expenditures and any potential liabilities to this committee.
- Provides labour relations related data as required and provides input or participates in Labour Management meetings as needed.
- Participates in the recruitment, selection and orientation of accounting staff. Provides ongoing supervision, evaluation and training of accounting staff. Models excellent communication, coaching and team work skills.
- Ensures that all reports are completed as required for all accounting functions ie GST, Work Safe BC, Charitable Tax forms and other related audit requirements.
What you must have:- Completion of CPA designation, experience in a non-profit organization and experience supervising and evaluating the performance of employees
- Demonstrated teamwork and supervisory skills.
- Demonstrated accurate financial report preparation and analysis skills.
- Positive and creative problem solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet cyclical deadlines.
- Ability to organize work and carry out the duties of the position with independence.
- Excellent ability to manage and operate computerized accounting and payroll systems, preferably Netsuite and UKG applications
- Superior oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.
Salary/Rate Range: $95,000 - $115,000
