Child Youth Services Worker 1 Year Temporary Contract – Full Time – Location to be determined

The Job Reporting to the Service Manager for the Child & Youth Services Team, the primary focus of the position will be to provide strength based anti-oppressive services which ensure the safety, well-being and permanence for children and youth in care, youth on Continued Care and Support for Youth (CCSY) and youth who are currently receiving service while on a Voluntary Service Agreement, in accordance with Society policies and procedures, Ministry Regulations, Standards and Directives and relevant legislation. Case assignments will be from across the Simcoe-Muskoka region, as well as from outside the jurisdiction. This is a Bargaining Unit position with CUPE Local 5319.

Primary Duties include:

  • Provision of on-going assessment and evaluation of children in the care of the Society.
  • Planning with children and youth, their care providers and support person(s) to inform case management to minimize risk, ensure safety, improve well-being, and promote positive outcomes and permanence.
  • Ensure the developmental, religious, cultural, educational, heritage, identity, and other developmental/support needs of the child/youth in care are met.
  • Advocate for children and youth through referrals and partnerships with community resources.
  • In collaboration with the Resource Department provide, identify, or coordinate services to care providers to support and assist them in providing quality care and supervision to children and youth placed in their care.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Social Work or Masters of Social Work degree is preferred. A degree in Social Sciences from an accredited University, in combination with several years of child welfare experience will also be considered.
  • Skills and knowledge in working with children and youth in care, and with their care givers.
  • An understanding of the community resources and processes related to mental health, developmental/intellectual disabilities and Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in the areas of group facilitation, attachment, trauma-informed practice, separation and loss, and child development.
  • A thorough understanding of and demonstrated skill in anti-oppressive and equity-based practice.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications, Outlook and CPIN.
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle is required.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a highly valued asset.

Note: Our current Collective Agreement has provisions for the following: Where an applicant from an Ontario Child Welfare Organization is successful in a job competition, service-based entitlements for wages and vacation shall be based on the length of their most recent period of continuous service. The foregoing does not apply to seniority-based entitlements.

Compensation The salary range is $68,182 to $86,592 commensurate with experience.
