DESCRIPTION:
Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) is seeking outstanding talent to join its dynamic team to develop clean energy and space nuclear propulsion in Ottawa, Canada. The Civil Engineer will provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks on assigned USNC Engineering Teams. The engineer is responsible for process improvement, process control and efficient operation of these systems, ensuring that health and safety, and adhering to quality assurance procedures. A portion of this work involves operation inside a radiological space and handling of uranium-bearing materials.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks on assigned USNC Engineering Teams
- Structural engineering tasks include:
- Analysis of structural systems for both static and dynamic loads using manual computation and computer programs
- Design of concrete structures
- Design of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber and composite structures
- Foundation and anchorage design
- Structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions
- Preparation and review of vendor documents.
- Ensure reliable and safe operation of these systems in compliance with environmental health and safety (EH&S), quality assurance, and Radiological Protection requirements
- Prepare and/or update procedures for operation and maintenance of the processing systems
- Record operating data and analyze system information as required to meet product specifications
- Design, manage and perform process improvement projects as identified by the group leader
- Work with production management and engineering to ensure manufacturing targets are met
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and
- A minimum 2 years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
- Working knowledge of STAAD
- Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.
- Aptitude for hands-on materials processing experience and the ability to carefully follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to take and record details and data derived from manufacturing runs
- Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted, work at elevated heights, work in outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain), work in radiological area and an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
- Ability to drive personal vehicle as needed for transportation of company property
- Experience in 2D Microstation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)
- Experience with process engineering and SPC
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Basic understanding of materials processing, engineering, and chemistry
- Understanding of EH&S and QA requirements/responsibilities
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
