Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, and as a member of the corporate communications team, this role will add strategic value across all of Medavie’s operating companies sharing timely, transparent, value-add information regularly. The Communications Advisor, External Relations, contributes to providing meaningful updates to managers and team members, assessing the environment, curating scans, and monitoring stakeholder trends and media.
This role has the ability to grow within Medavie under the support of a great team. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of communications monitoring channels and social media best practices.

Main Responsibilities
-Development and ownership of a strategic plan and approach to monitor media channels, news, the environment in Atlantic Canada and across the country.
-Manage internal cascade for daily media monitoring reports.
-Responsible for the corporate media monitoring systems.
-Manage escalating urgent or relevant news to the manager as required.   
-Identify and maintain a big picture view of the environment in which the organization operates, sharing trends related to health, business and government.
-Monitor social media channels for engagement and draft responses for review.
-Develop relationships internally across multiple departments and business partners.
-Liaise with team members responsible for blog posts, social media and other internally focused content streams.
-Support writing meaningful and engaging content to support external and brand teams where required.
-Able to work with team members in a hybrid of work from home (WFH) and work from office (WFO) environments across multiple geographic locations.
-Coordinate and support virtual internal leadership meetings, stakeholder event attendance and group sessions.
-Support contract tracking and subscription lists.
-Support other requirements for external communications needs where required.
Required Qualifications
-Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or other related field and up to two years of related experience.
-Exceptional written communication skills, including editing, proofreading and attention to detail.
-A strong understanding of strategic approaches and influences in the health sector.
-An interest in current and government affairs.
-A storyteller with an ability to take complex information and distill into digestible, engaging pieces.
-Strong editing skills including (but not limited to): news releases, web content, email, speaking remarks and scripts for events, social media updates and articles, etc.
-Up-to-date understanding of innovations in social media channels and communications practices, particularly new platforms/digital channels.
-Experience in working in a large, corporate environment is considered an asset.
-Ability to recognize and escalate issues as they arise to the manager.
-Ability to work with confidential and sensitive subjects/issues in a professional manner.
-Solid time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and produce materials to meet tight deadlines.

-Advanced skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Webex as well as social media platforms.
-Flexible to work outside of normal hours as required.
Language Skills
-Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset, but not required, for this position.
