The UWBC Helpline Services operates 24/7/365 and we are looking for two dedicated staff members; one to provide coverage for our day operation and one dedicated to the overnight line.


JOB SUMMARY

Provides information and referral services, crisis and emotional support, advocacy, and soft counseling to clients of United Way British Columbia’s Helpline Services division. Supports the organization’s mission in providing information and referral services as well as educating the public about the services provided by UWBC Helpline Services.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responds to client enquiries in a timely manner by:
    • Conducting an assessment of the clients’ needs
    • Providing relevant and up to date information
    • Providing emotional support and soft counseling as required
    • Providing appropriate referral
    • Providing crisis supports and intervention as necessary
    • Conducting Follow-up, Assisted Referral, Advocacy and other related information and referral services as set by BC211 and inform USA standards.
  • Keeps appropriate case notes and maintains and provides statistics and reports regarding service delivery as required.
  • Participates in public education to raise awareness about Information and Referral and services provided by BC211.
  • Consults and liaises with community service agencies to maintain up-to-date information on available resources and develop community relations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Community Resources and issues by reading assigned material and attending appropriate training.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and events and workshops hosted by BC211 as required.
  • May be required to compile and maintain monthly and yearly statistics for programs and related services.
  • Attains and maintains Inform USA certification.
  • Participates in projects and conducts tasks that are extension of core services provided by BC211
  • Performs other related duties as required


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Ability to research, assimilate and organize relevant information, giving exact attention to detail.
  • Some experience in the human services network in British Columbia.
  • Some experience in one or more areas of addiction, victim services, or crisis counseling is an asset.
  • Excellentoral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent risk assessment skills and judgment when dealing with possible safety and/or endangerment.
  • Ability to work independently, to set priorities and to effectively allocate time and other resources.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain co-operative working relationships with other members of staff.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and community agencies and maintain good public relations.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of standard office practices.
  • Ability to work days, evenings and overnight shifts.


Education and Experience
:

  • Diploma in a related human / social service related field; comprehensive knowledge of the human services in Metro Vancouver and the province of BC
  • Two (2) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE Local 1936.
This position is a Pay Grid 11 which is $26.74 per hour.
