Postion: Construction Superintendent – 2024-003 - Nunatsiavut Construction
Term: Seasonal Permanent
Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL
Summary:
This position will be the onsite contact for overseeing, manage, and direct all aspects of a project from beginning to end. The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership qualities that allow them to take control of a project and produce results. This role will have field and office requirements and will involve a lot of travel to various projects.
Responsibilities:
- Project Manager’s representative on various worksite;
- Provide support to the PM, Site Supervisors, and other project staff
- Work with Project Management to compile information for bid submissions;
- Ability to do quantity takeoffs, field quantities and estimating;
- Collaboration with Project Managers, Clients, and other management personnel when determining budgets and timelines;
- Studies specifications and drawings to provide input in the planning for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of the project;
- Manages project schedules and works with site supervisors to assure the work is done properly and on time;
- Responsible for verifying subcontractors and vendors conformance to project requirements on the project site;
- Must have complete and comprehensive understanding of the projects scope of work;
- Meet with clients to discuss requirements, specifications, and improvements;
- Build relationships and communicate with owners, design partners, subcontractors, & workforce;
- Resolve field problems and conflicts, liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and workforce;
- Assist with all schedule preparations & updates, identify critical work items, and prepare long-lead item;
- Assist with project closeout;
- Assist with preparation of change orders, take-offs, quantitative surveys, and project estimates;
- Assist with GPS/Survey equipment on site and models for layout and quantities;
- Drive cost-effective project management techniques and strategies in the field;
- Maintain a daily site log and project deliverables;
- Maintain strict construction schedule and make changes as necessary to ensure deadlines are met;
- Implementing techniques and strategies that are efficient and cost effective;
- Travel between various jobsites, managing work loads and individual projects with support of Project Managers;
- Responsible for the implementation of the project site specific safety program by ensuring the daily and weekly safety meetings, are being conducted;
- Participate in workplace inspections, incident and accident investigation;
- Responsible for implementing the company’s Quality Control Program to ensure all the project’s specification requirements are met or exceeded;
- Perform, schedule, and monitor of work, ensure quality standards are met, and organize inspections to meet regulations and standards;
- Assist with the hiring and assigning personnel to each project;
- Work with senior management and human resources regarding employee performance concerns;
- Monitor employee performance and provide feedback when necessary;
- Set an example with keeping jobsite organized, cleaned, meet all safety standards and expectations;
- Identifying problems and executing problem solving, along with conflict resolution;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Engineering Technician diploma with 5+ year of construction experience. Combination of relevant education and/or experience will be considered.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience
- Knowledge and experience in surveying
- Knowledge of software programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, AutoCAD
Assets:
- Bilingual in both Inutittut and English
- Experience is working Northern and Indigenous communities
