Controller

Excel Personnel is seeking an experienced Controller in Terrace, BC. Our client has a well-respected and tenured reputation in the Public Services & Procurement, and Transportation & Infrastructure industries in Northern BC. The Controller will be responsible for managing offices and office staff in all company locations to ensure they are open and staffed for regular office hours (normally 8 am – 5pm).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA certification is preferred).
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role.
• Solid understanding of financial management and accounting principles.
• Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role within the finance department.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent knowledge of accounting software and financial systems.
• Thorough understanding of financial regulations and compliance.
• Effective communication skills for collaboration with various departments.
• Leadership abilities and experience in managing a finance team.
• Detail-oriented and capable of producing accurate and timely financial reports.
• Overseeing financial planning and budgeting processes.
• Monitoring and analyzing financial performance.
• Ensuring compliance with accounting policies and regulations.
• Managing financial reporting and presenting findings to senior management.
• Supervising and guiding the finance team.
• Collaborating with external auditors and ensuring a smooth audit process.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax compliance, revenue recognition and various special analysis
• Maintain documented system of accounting policies and procedures
• Oversee payments of all accounts: ensuring all accounts are paid on time
• Process accounts and collecting payments
• Oversee all payments made for debts, bank loans, and leases
• Monitor cash and loan, lease balances
• Maintain an organized filing system of all accounts, statements, transactions payments and other accounting data
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports as required
• Prepare information for lenders, insurance and bonding companies as required
• Organize year end information and draft financial statements for external accountants
• Define, benchmark and implement operational best practices
• Insure compliance with all local, provincial and federal laws and regulations regarding finances, tax fillings and reporting requirements
• Insure company complies with all additional legal and regulatory requirements
• Manage all outsourced services, ie: IT
• Oversee all accounting and reporting requirements of related companies and entities

Salary, Vacation & Benefits

• Salary starting at $100,000 to $120,000/year based on qualifications.
• Three 3 weeks (15 working days) paid vacation per calendar year
• Company benefit plan after 90 days waiting period
• Company will pay for the kilometers to and from work and business use car insurance
• Company will pay $150/month gas card, and $100/month cell phone allowance
• Company will reimburse relocation costs up to $15,000, upon presentation of receipts.
