Job description

We are currently representing a distinguished building materials company based in the Vancouver area, and we are actively seeking an accomplished Controller to join their team.

Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role plays an integral part in shaping the company's financial landscape. As a leader within the finance function, the Controller is responsible for guiding and mentoring the team, driving process enhancements, and optimizing financial performance. An interest and aptitude for digital technology will be invaluable in implementing innovative solutions to streamline processes and enhance efficiency across the finance function.

The role:

As the Controller, you will be a crucial part of financial planning, strategic decision making, accounting operations. You will be responsible for the accounting function, system administration, cash management, corporate reporting, budgeting, and performance analytics. You will lead transformation initiatives, including process improvements to gain efficiencies from the new ERP, expanding our use of technology to support corporate performance management and business partner capabilities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and actively mentor team members for development
  • Set clear goals and expectations for the accounting team, regularly monitoring progress, and providing feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Oversee the corporate controller function in delivering full-cycle accounting for the company, including monthly and annual financial statements for the company and working papers for annual Financial Statement Review.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of internal controls and processes. Oversee the implementation of process improvements and simple user-friendly process documentation, as necessary.
  • Identify system enhancement opportunities, evaluate solutions for new or changing operational requirements, lead the implementation of new system solutions.
  • Work closely with the Accounting and Operational Teams to review processes, implement best practices, and improve productivity.
  • Develop, implement, and prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting dashboards/packages, including KPI dashboards for both financial and operational metrics, as well as narrative.
  • Determine benchmarks for comparing the operating and financial performance of the business.
  • Design financial dashboards and present financial and operational reports to Functional Leaders, Branch Managers and the Senior Management team.
  • Present clear and insightful narratives on financial and operational performance that proactively identify market trends, analyse product/market initiatives and progress against our strategic goals.
  • Direct and review financial planning, budget and forecasting.
  • Manage and review budgeting and forecasting models/software.
  • Monitor working capital balances and recommend short-term financing solutions.
  • Support and assist with daily cash flow, foreign exchange management, and other banking transactions.
  • Assist with business funding decisions.
  • Evaluate the need for innovative technology add-on’s to recently implemented ERP system, to meet the company’s budgeting, financial transaction processing, data processing, control and dashboarding/analytics requirements.
  • Oversee insurance and risk management.
  • Oversee the management of all leases, contracts, and other financial commitments.

Who You Are:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in leadership and management roles.
  • Experience with system and process improvement initiatives and understanding of best practices.
  • Experience in a distribution environment is an asset.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and forward-thinking. Ability to interpret business and operational needs and develop practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of Epicor Prophet 21 is an asset.
  • Capable of developing and sustaining cooperative, productive working relationships and demonstrating the company's core values to contribute positively to the organization's culture.
  • Ability to build and develop an agile and high-performing team that drives for continuous improvement.

Salary: From $130,000.00 per year
