This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Supervisor, you will be responsible for using strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages and assemble trays. Serve meals in a dining room set and provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment, and adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy and work under pressure in high-stress situations. Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments on matters related to patient meals, snacks, and nourishment supplies. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient-first approach. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As a Cook I, you will be responsible for food preparation, portion and assembly, and serving of menu items with limited supervision. Your typical duties may include preparing multi-ingredient recipes from raw ingredients using various cooking techniques and established recipes, preparing meals using precooked products utilizing various re-thermalization techniques and ensuring meals are appropriately portioned. You will follow AHS guidelines for quantity and quality controls, food safety standards, and established cleaning and sanitization practices to ensure the cleanliness of cooking equipment and work areas.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift. Food Sanitation and Hygiene Certificate or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications:
Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. Experience in operating a computer (Microsoft Office programs or other computer programs). Recent valid Criminal Record Check (produced within past 90 days). Able to provide two work related references from direct report or manager. Preferred Qualifications:
Food/Customer service experience. Experience in inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates & minimizing waste, utilizing “First in- First Out”. Experience in a hospital or long term care environment. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. WHIMIS training.
