Cook (Part-Time)

Job Description

• To prepare and serve nutritious meals for residents in a safe manner
• To work within a set budget, limit waste and adhere to residence policies and procedures
• Be knowledgeable of and practice residence's fire and safety programs
• Review regular and therapeutic menus
• Set-up equipment and supplies for daily food production
• Prepare food following standardized recipes. Ensure meals are served on time, at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities
• Responsible for the clear and correct labelling of excess food.
• Supervise and direct Dietary Aides during basic food preparation and meal service.
• Perform duties as outlined and any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time
• Refer and adhere to all policies and procedures as they are in effect

Qualifications:

• Culinary designation/diploma an asset or equivalent designation
• Current certificate in food handling training from a local board of health or an agency of the board of health or has recently successfully completed an equivalent food handler training program
• Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset
• Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors
• Experience in quantity food preparation
• Familiar with Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating and therapeutic diets
• Ability to direct and supervise others
• Ability to understand oral and written directions
• Ability to lift heavy objects, and stand and walk short distances throughout the day and to tolerate heat from the kitchen area
• Must be free of communicable diseases
• Familiar with Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety, and Sanitation Code

Job Requirements

• Police Record Check (as per RHA), including VSC
• Immunizations as per home’s policy
• TB Testing

Salary: TBD based on experience

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $16.55-$19.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Seaforth, ON N0K 1W0: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

• DCS / DEC (preferred)

Experience:

• Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• Food Handler Certification (required)
