Customer Service Representative

The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for the permanent, full-time position of Customer Service Representativeto provide front line Customer Service, both in person and on the telephone, to customers with finance, recreation, roads, or general inquiries.
The Township offers flexible work arrangements, including an opportunity for this position to participate in our 4-day work week program.
Position Responsibilities
The usual responsibilities of the position are:
- Provide front line Customer Service as the primary telephone and front counter contact.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to find solutions and resolve customer concerns.
- Process payments and issue receipts for all front counter transactions, including tax and water/wastewater bills, recreation program registrations and rentals, building permits, fire permits, dog tags and licenses.
- Complete daily balancing, prepare weekly deposits, and process reports.
- Process all Township mail daily, including opening, date stamping and distributing to appropriate departments; receive and record procurement documents. Ensure outgoing mail is picked up from the front counter by the appropriate party daily.
- Assist with the maintenance of master files for property tax and water/wastewater accounts.
- Assist in the mailing of property tax and water/wastewater bills and tax certificates.
- Maintain the department filing system and filing on a regular basis.
- Record service requests for the Roads and Fleet department in CityWide software when required.
- Participate as an effective team member within the Finance Department and the organization as a whole.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Successful completion of a University Degree or College Diploma in Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide accurate, timely and complete information in a political and Customer Service environment.
- Good problem solving, interpersonal and Customer Service skills to address customer inquiries and concerns with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, balance multiple demands and address tight timelines with frequent interruptions.
- Knowledge of Municipal Administration, Municipal Act, By-Laws, and related legislation as they apply to the Corporation and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act preferred.
- Experience with the various computer applications appropriate to the position including advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Dynamics GP. Experience with PerfectMind and CityWide software is an asset.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of information is critical.
- Ability to work occasional hours beyond the normal work week, including evenings and weekends to accommodate deadlines or work projects.
- A Valid Class G driver’s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record; travel between offsite locations may be required.
- Due to the responsibilities of the position, a police information check satisfactory to the Township of Springwater is required.
Rate of Pay
The Township of Springwater offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefit plan, including participation in the OMERS pension plan for this position. Compensation for this position is currently $51,168 to $59,887 per annum (2024 rate).
Hours of Work
This position will work 35 hours per week; however, occasional hours outside of normal business hours, including attendance at evening meetings, will be required.
