Cybersecurity Awareness Program Advisor

What you'll do

Reporting to the Cybersecurity Governance and Performance Lead, the Cybersecurity Awareness Program Advisor is
accountable for developing and implementing corporate-wide Cybersecurity Awareness and training initiatives aimed to
effectively motivate desired behavioral changes and foster a culture towards secure use and handling of BC Hydro
information and information assets.
Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, and executes Cybersecurity Awareness campaigns to educate BC Hydro’s employees and contractors
on current cyber threats, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Evaluates, analyzes and identifies internal risks with the threat and vulnerability team and develops education and
awareness needs.
  • Through collaboration with internal cybersecurity teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, develops virtual training
sessions, in-person events, resources, and online content related to Cybersecurity Awareness Programs to mitigate risks
with respect to human behavior.
  • Engages with internal stakeholders to promote Cybersecurity Awareness initiatives and identify specific internal needs.

  • Ensures the training and Cybersecurity Awareness Program meets regulatory requirements and business needs.

  • Plans and develops phishing exercises to creatively test BC Hydro’s users vulnerability.

  • Reviews practices in place for Cybersecurity Awareness Program and seeks new approaches, techniques, processes and
platforms to make improvements.
  • Provides input and assist with a wide range of cybersecurity governance activities and initiatives (e.g. cybersecurity policy
development and review, and handling of cybersecurity exemption requests).
Knowledge and Skills
  • Sound knowledge of cybersecurity including current cyber threats, best practices, and emerging trends.

  • Ability to translate technical terms to a non-technical audience.

  • Ability to create clear and concise content to a large and diverse audience.

  • Knowledge of communications and change management principles.

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques to drive human behaviour.

  • Strong communication abilities including listening, presentation, negotiation, influencing, facilitating, and writing skills.

  • Ability to develop creative solutions to drive a culture of compliance and promote behavioural change.

  • Knowledge of project management principles.

  • Ability to work in a complex environment and with different stakeholders in a matrixed organization.

  • Capacity for continuous learning of latest industry trends and research in a constantly shifting landscape.

What you bring

  • University degree in computer science or communications related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing learning or training programs using varied channels (e.g. in-person, web-
based, videos).
  • 5 years of experience managing training and Awareness Programs. Cybersecurity experience (especially phishing
simulations, presentations, training, and online content) would be considered an asset.
  • Cybersecurity awareness certification, like SSAP or CSAP, or cybersecurity certificates such as CISSP, CISA, Security+,
or equivalent, would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in a large utility company would be considered an asset.
