Daycare Chef/cook

Tot Spot Academy is looking for a energetic chef to join our team.

Hours are flexible to fit your needs as long as snacks and lunch are prepared on time (9:30, 11:30, 2:30).

Responsibilities include:

• Prepping, cooking, baking and portioning on meals for daycare center on a day-to-day basis.
• Ensure safe food storage and disposal; includes taking daily logs of food temperature and refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Following the FIFO (First in First Out) rule and rotating inventory as required.
• Collecting, washing and sanitizing classroom dishes.
• Prepare weekly grocery list based on monthly menu
• Flexibility to prepare monthly menu based on food guide requirements/
• Responsible for putting away all deliveries without breaking the cold chain for freezer/fridge items and the storage of all dry goods.
• Ensure effective cost control by minimizing waste, proper food allocation, controlling food inventories and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
• Complies with all health and hygiene requirements under all food safety and handling legislation.
• Oversees kitchen operations including scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of appliances, counters, cupboards and drawers.

Job Requirements:

• High School diploma/GED equivalency required; College/University coursework in culinary related program preferred.
• Current Food Handler Certification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in a daycare environment preference for those who have obtained a Level 1 Childcare Certification.
• Experience working in a high-volume kitchen environment.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds frequently.
• Excellent organization skills, detail oriented and a strong team player.
• Clean criminal record and child welfare check.
• Level one childcare certification - free online course that takes 40 hours and allows for wage top up.

Wage includes top up which is accessible after Level one course is completed.

Two weeks paid off per year, no weekends or evening work, all statutory holidays paid off, time off between Christmas and New Years paid off as bonus.
