Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Daycare Cook to join our team. The Daycare Cook plays a crucial role in ensuring that nutritious and delicious meals are prepared for the children under our care. In addition to culinary responsibilities, the successful candidate may also be required to assist with classroom activities and cover teacher breaks when necessary.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children, adhering to dietary guidelines and food safety regulations.
• Plan weekly menus in consultation with management, considering dietary restrictions, allergies, and cultural preferences.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area, including proper storage of food, equipment, and supplies.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels, and place orders for groceries and kitchen supplies as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers and childcare staff to accommodate special dietary needs and promote healthy eating habits among children.
• Ensure that meal times are enjoyable and engaging for children, fostering positive attitudes towards food and nutrition.
• Assist with classroom activities and supervision of children as required, particularly during teacher breaks or staffing shortages.
• Adhere to all childcare center policies and procedures, including health and safety protocols.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a childcare setting.
• Knowledge of nutrition principles and experience in meal planning for children.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and proper kitchen hygiene practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and assist with additional duties as needed.
• Passion for working with children and promoting their well-being through healthy meals and positive mealtime experiences.
• Certification in food handling and sanitation is an asset.

Expected hours: No less than 30 per week

Education:

• Secondary School (preferred)

Experience:

• Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Language:

• English (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• Food Handler Certification (preferred)
• Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
