COOK/HOUSE KEEPER
O’Shkiigamong Early Learning Centre
The purposes of this position are:
  • The Cook/Housekeeper is responsible for developing and providing a nutritious menu and for the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment as well as general cleanliness of the program while ensuring the policies and procedures of Oshkiigmong Early Learning Centre, Curve Lake First Nation and the local health unit are met.

The duties and responsibilities of this position are categorized into three main functions:
1. Food Service
  • Plans weekly menus for meals and snacks
  • Ensures the availability of adequate food supplies and appropriate food preparation facilities
  • Plans, prepares and serves nutritional meals and snacks in adequate quantities.

2. Health and Hygiene
  • Ensures the highest standard of cleanliness in food preparation and service
  • Understands and practices sound health and hygiene practices
  • Maintains the kitchen and food preparation facilities and equipment in a clean, hygienic and orderly manner.

3. Other
  • Performs such other related duties as may reasonably be required by the Day Care Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements: (APPLICANTS MUST SHOW NECESSARY PROOF WITH APPLICATION OR WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY SCREENED OUT)
Education & Experience:
  • Two to three years’ experience in an institutional or commercial food service environment
  • Graduation from a food preparation program
  • Current First Aid/CPR
  • Certificate in food handlers course

  • Ability to handle emergencies, crisis, hostile behaviours
  • Ability to maintain control in frustrating situations
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment, while providing work direction
  • Reporting non-routine situations to Coordinator
  • Ability to maintain neat and accurate records
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children, parents, coworkers, teachers
  • Basic Knowledge of Curve Lake First Nation and its business policies and processes

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a Permanent Full Time position beginning immediately. Hours are Monday to Friday. Annual salary range for this position is $41,636 - $45,377 based on a 39.5 work week.
