Job Summary
The Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University is a small research-intensive campus located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies. Reporting to the Faculty’s Associate Dean, Research (ADR), the Director, Faculty Strategy and Strategic Projects is instrumental in the implementation of the Faculty and University’s Strategic Plans and Research Strategies across the Faculty including development, facilitation, and promotion.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the Faculty in the development of strategic collaborator agreements. Establish and build relationships with industry, government, and not-for-profit organizations to achieve new or expanded large-scale collaborations and research programs. Serve as a key liaison for these projects.
- Assist with the facilitation and implementation of the Faculty Strategic Plan ensuring that projects and partnerships support the Plan. Assist with the development of future strategic plans for the Faculty in alignment with University plans.
- Identify and facilitate the establishment of funding opportunities for Faculty-wide and cross-Faculty collaborative research initiatives. Facilitate and support the development of interdisciplinary research programs. Assist in announcing research accomplishments to the University and general public.
- Design, implement, and maintain a research diagnostic framework. Develop research performance indicators. Support research initiatives including funding application development, submission and, compliance; and the development of resources and processes.
- Oversee Cultiv8 Sandbox activities, staff and funds. Work with Cultiv8 Manager to ensure Sandbox initiatives are in line with Faculty, Academic, and Research Strategic plans, and to promote the best use of the funding through leveraging, and partnering as possibilities arise.
- Work closely with Dalhousie’s Office of Research Services, Government & Global Affairs, Office of Commercialization and Industry Engagement, Legal Counsel, Communications, Marketing & Creative Services, and Financial Services in support of the Faculty’s Strategic Research Plan, research contracts and service agreements.

The incumbent may spend a significant portion of their time away from of the office in out of town and overnight travel.

Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in a relevant field plus at least five to seven years industry experience in the agriculture sector (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Proven experience in strategy development, facilitation and implementation.
- Demonstrated expertise in research funding opportunities and processes including funding through not-for-profits, industry, government and granting agencies.
- Excellent client service, interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills including proven experience working successfully with academic, industry, government and not-for-profit representatives at all levels.
- Highly motivated with proven ability to identify and execute innovative approaches in research and research collaboration.
- Financial and budget management experience.
