Position Title: Director, Group Business Architecture
Reports To: Director, Operations and Digital Experience
Department: Group Operations
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.
The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Director of Group Business Architecture to join our Group Operations team!
This new leader will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and profitability of the Group line of business. The Director is accountable to define modularization, and then develop, prioritize, and groom the product backlogs for the Technology teams to execute, creating unique and innovative solutions.

What you will do:
- Set an ambitious and clear architecture vision in partnership with related strategy leaders, that aligns to the Group Benefits business strategy.
- Partner in creation of user journey maps, story maps and product roadmaps for the development team.
- Accountable for specific and key Operation outcomes.
- Ensure alignment with other strategies and projects to ensure consistency for clients and identify opportunities for re-use.
- Convert product vision into a roadmap that is at a state to hydrate the backlog for the teams.
- Leverage in-depth research and data to decide solution options to complex problems.
- Lead multiple development teams bridging vision to solution details to produce high quality outcomes.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, IT teams, and external vendors.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into actionable plans.
What you will bring:
- Proven experience as a Business Architect or similar role in a finance-related industry.
- 10+ years' experience in strategic programs, with special focus on legacy modernization or digital transformation projects
- Successful track record of leading complex initiatives, particularly in technology replacement projects.
- Experience in agile, or iterative development.
- Experience with journey mapping and design thinking processes.
- Experience with value stream development.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
- Preference given to candidates that are Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Agile Product Ownership (ICP-APO), Business Architecture or similar certification.
