Position Title: Intermediate Technology Specialist, Core Systems Developer

Reports To: Manager, Group Systems Development

Department:Group IT

Term:Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for an Intermediate Technology Specialist, Core Systems Developer to join our Group Systems Development team!

We're looking for a motivated individual who wants to contribute their skills to our team, who is passionate about software development and remains diligent to the process, and above all - does the right thing.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, develop and unit test high-performance, scalable applications ranging from front-end web development to back-end systems
  • Review code committed by your peers as requested to maintain good coding practices
  • Work closely with systems analysts, business analysts, and quality analysts to develop alternative solutions to meet business needs
  • Document all program and system changes for ease of future support
  • Contribute technical expertise to the development and planning process
  • Analyze production system problems and recommend workable solutions with minimal to no guidance; includes on-call production support
  • Deliver effective and efficient solutions by meeting key project milestones and overall project deliverables on time, within budget, and adhering to development and quality standards
  • Continually research and learn new technologies to support system changes and keep us up-to-date
  • Work effectively with a project team in an agile team environment

What you will bring:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field
  • A strong working knowledge of Web Services including REST, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Web API
  • A solid knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, the ability to write and tune Transact SQL and ADO.NET, nice to have SSRS, SSIS (assets)
  • A strong technical background with proficiency in .NET programming (C#), frameworks and .NET Core; with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in Visual Basic is an asset
  • Working knowledge of technologies like LINQ, regex, JSON, XSD, SOAP, and WSDL
  • Experience with Azure and Azure DevOps.
  • Hands on experience using testing frameworks such as MS Test
  • Working knowledge of design patterns and industry best practices
  • Experience with source control (TFS, GIT)
  • Experience with Office products (Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
  • General knowledge of insurance industry (an asset)
