Reporting to the Vice President, People and Culture the Director will support initiatives and activities associated with the strategic goal, Healthy Team. In partnership with the Vice President, People and Culture, they will advance Holland Bloorview’s Healthy Team priorities with assistance from members of the People and Culture (P&C) and Occupational Health and Wellness departments and catalyzing teams and resources across the organization.

The Director, Healthy Teams will provide operational leadership and support to Holland Bloorview’s people and culture and occupational health and wellness teams to achieve strategic and operational goals. This position is the most senior operational lead and is responsible for monitoring and mitigating risk for the portfolio’s annual operating plan.

The Director will support an approach that focuses on predicting and responding to employee and leadership needs, building an engaged employee culture; and continually seeking better solutions through productivity, technology, and innovation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the delivery of P&C services to the hospital including recruitment and retention activities, employee and labour relations, compensation and benefits, employee growth and development, health and wellness initiatives and reporting by effectively utilizing the P&C team in the delivery of these activities.
  • In collaboration with members of the inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and anti-racism team participate in activities to advance equity, accessibility and anti-racism for Holland Bloorview.
  • Provide operational accountability for hospital wellbeing and culture in partnership with leaders across the hospital and the occupational health and wellness team.
  • Provide leadership for the P&C operational team, including managers and oversee the implementation of goals and objectives across the department.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the hospital’s compensation and benefit programs to ensure effective recruitment and retention of employees.
  • Provide operational leadership for the development of employee and leader training and development programs and initiatives across the hospital.
  • Provide guidance and leadership for complex workplace people issues including grievances, performance improvement, and disciplinary matters to support a productive working environment.
  • Provide expert guidance to the P&C leadership team with a focus on operational accuracy and effectiveness.
  • In collaboration with the vice president people and culture lead continuous improvement efforts, ensuring sustainable human resources policies and processes and technology systems that support service delivery optimization for the hospital.
  • Provide sound and expert advice to leaders on operational people matters, risks, issues, and trends to keep managers informed and supported.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and standards.
  • Monitor external trends related to human resources, inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility and anti-racisim (IDEAA), occupational health and wellness, compensation and benefits, employee growth and development and provide evidence-based recommendations for enhancements to ensure implementation of leading practices.
  • Oversee P&C department budgets, with an attention to cost effectiveness

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A university degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and related work experience is required.
  • Professional certification (CHRP) preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in recruitment; compensation and benefits; labour relations, organizational development and learning, employee health and wellness and occupational health.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate and promote the mission, vision, values, goals, and strategic direction of Holland Bloorview with a sense of urgency, optimism, enthusiasm, and a drive for results.
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices and processes along with a broad understanding of employment law.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it relates to individual, organizational, and operational requirements and other related legislation.
  • Strong strategic capabilities as well as a willingness to be hands-on and comfortable with tactical execution.
  • Inter-professional systems-level thinking with demonstrated experience in effectively leading change initiatives.
  • Self-directed, flexible, and tolerant of ambiguity while being willing and able to reach out to others for help and advice.
  • Strong business acumen and a history of sound decision making supported by outcome metrics.
  • Proven ability to manage complex relationships and strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage many issues simultaneously.
  • Superior professional judgement, diplomacy and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to influence others and have highly effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for engaging employees and promoting a supportive and productive work culture.
  • Lived experience as a member of a group underrepresented in leadership (e.g. BIPOC, disability, 2SLGBTQ) an asset.
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in a healthcare, unionized and non-profit environment is preferred.
