Job Overview

Internal Audit Services (IAS) is beginning a multi-year journey to build a strong, collaborative, risk-focused function to enable FirstOntario Credit Union (FCU) in achieving its strategic objectives. Reporting to the Vice President, Internal Audit (Chief Audit Executive), the IA Director (Treasury & Finance) is one of two new Director roles and will form the IAS Leadership Team. The IA Director will support the CAE with building the IAS function and delivering its mandate to support the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors in their oversight role. While this role has a specialized focus in Treasury & Finance, the IA Director must be comfortable with all aspects of Internal Audit across the organization.


Role:

  • IAS oversight responsibility for FCU Treasury & Finance areas, including developing strategy and methods for ongoing assessments of governance, risk, and controls.
  • Develop and deliver risk-based IAS Plan for the Treasury & Finance areas.
  • Lead and execute IAS projects, including:
    • Develop and execute risk-based audit test programs and procedures in accordance with professional and industry standards;
    • Assess key business risks and evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of related processes and controls;
    • Develop conclusions and assess the impact of issues;
    • Draft reports and other materials to summarise and communicate results;
    • Supervise and coach IAS team members in executing their assigned audit work;
    • Manage co-sourced providers.
  • Support the CAE in progressing the IAS Strategic Plan, including:
    • Developing IA methodologies, policies, and work practices;
    • Evolving awareness and maturity of IAS and 3 Lines of Defense across FCU community.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Represent IAS in various management committees and cross-functional teams.
  • Support the CAE in developing materials for the Audit Committee and senior leadership.
  • Coach and develop IAS team members.


Required Skills

  • 10+ years of professional experience in evaluating governance, risk, and controls of various business processes and functions.
  • Must have strong knowledge of all aspects of Treasury function, such as securitization, interest rate risk management, liquidity risk management, capital management, funding, etc.
  • Professional designation such as CPA, CFA, CIA, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience managing, coaching, and mentoring teams.
  • Experienced in risk-based process auditing. Understanding of IIA standards and risk assessment practices. Must be comfortable with overseeing non-Treasury audits with support through co-source and internal resources.
  • Experience in OSFI or FSRA regulated organization would be an asset.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Collaborative and diplomatic, but with the necessary tenacity to have difficult conversations.
  • Clear and influential written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong project management and organisation skills.
  • Accountable, takes on responsibility, high degree of initiative.
  • Location: remote with potential for occasional corporate office events
