Job Overview:
This position is responsible for the People & Culture strategy, direction and execution for BGE. People & Culture is key to the success of BGE’s strategy and business execution. This role will have primary accountability over the culture of the organization and will be expected to understand the pulse of employee engagement in the business and develop initiatives to respond and enhancement overall engagement. This role will lead our People & Culture team to be trusted advisors to our leadership team and our people. This role will also develop best practices to ensure strong engagement, high retention and strong development programs.

1 Senior People & Culture Business Partner and 2 Junior People & Culture Business Partners.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead, direct, and mentor the People & Culture professionals within BGE of varying skill sets to deliver excellent performance.
  • Provide strategic direction and/or support of all P&C operations facets including:
  • People & Culture Strategy
  • Organizational Design & Talent Mapping
  • Recruitment & Resourcing to meet BGE’s strategy
  • Compensation & Total Rewards structure
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues
  • Provide coaching around performance and/or disciplinary issues
  • Terminations
  • Training & Development
  • BGE Leadership Development program
  • People & Culture metrics & systems
  • Policy & Handbook review & updates
  • Lead, evaluate, assess, and drive all P&C programs required to improve and then maintain employer of choice status; including but not limited to, workforce planning, learning and development programs, total compensation, counseling on employee relations issues, employee engagement initiatives, legislative compliance, and performance management
  • Manage a People & Culture strategic plan focusing on identifying current and long-term potential needs.
  • Assess, develop, and implement practical human resource strategies that complement the overall corporate strategic business plan while ensuring talent programs are optimally coordinated and integrated across the business.
  • Advise on the role People & Culture can proactively play in supporting organizational success.
  • Project manage multiple People & Culture initiatives and deliverables.
  • Prepare People & Culture Budget and support the people budgeting component
  • Evaluate and refine total compensation strategies including hourly, salary and variable pay
  • Coach and support various levels of management from executives to front-line managers to navigate evaluation, training, discipline, termination, and other P&C issues.
  • Develop and foster strong working relationships with the Senior Leadership Team and other stakeholders to facilitate effective business operations.
  • Work with Senior Leadership Team to develop staffing budgets and strategies for sustainable operations.
  • Support the CEO with communicating and reporting to the Board as required.
  • Keep current with existing and proposed laws and regulations affecting P&C practices.
  • Other P&C responsibilities, as required.
Hours of Work: 37.5hr/week. Monday – Friday (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).

Physical Requirements:
Sitting for long periods at a time focused on a computer screen.

Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel across Western Canada to BGE branch locations.

  • Holds regular status meetings with the project team and keep the team well informed of any changes that arise for the duration of an active project.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
  • Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and solicit feedback regarding existing internal and external client services
  • Continually assess internal operational levels and seek to understand the cross-functional needs of the organization
  • Promote effective interpersonal communication and successful conflict resolution
  • Create strong relationships with the People & Culture counterparts of BGE
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business
  • CPHR Designation
  • Five plus years of experience managing an People & Culture or Human Resources team
  • Ten plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions
  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning and organizational development, employee relations, health, safety and wellness, as well as learning and development
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement preferred
  • Experience with Dayforce HCM, or other equivalent systems is considered an asset.

  • Affable and pleasant in dealing with others, interested in people and demonstrates a quick and responsive communication style.
  • Ability to be diplomatic and persuasive while engaging direct reports and others
  • Exceptional leadership skills while demonstrating solid coaching and advisory skills
  • Confident in dealing with ambiguity
  • Interest in exploring new, faster or better approaches to improving performance
  • Effective in a role that emphasizes problem-solving and achieving objectives where guidelines and policies are in place
  • Ability and willingness to handle technical and task-oriented activities
  • Phenomenal attention to detail while maintaining effective time management skills
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to give and receive feedback
