About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a full-time Director, Talent Programs to join our dynamic People, Culture and Performance division

Talent Programs is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services through delivering core human resources programs to the organization ensuring standards, policies and guidelines are followed, but also providing the delivery of a consistent and high-quality employee experience. 

In this role, you will report to the Vice-President, People, Culture and Performance and will oversee a portfolio of important Talent Programs.  These include: 

  • Total Rewards 
  • Talent Acquisition 
  • Employee Safety and Wellness (inclusive of occupational health and safety, disability management, and internal wellness programming) 
  • Recognition 
  • Payroll 
  • Continuous Improvement

Formula for success 

  • Leveraging your strategic planning and delivery experience, you will identify the improvement and modernization path to ensure these programs reflect our strategic talent intent, enhance our employee experience, as well as all corporate, compliance and professional standards and requirements. 
  • Using your people leadership abilities and experience, you will lead a team with subject matter experts who provide outstanding employee services and innovate to constantly improve the functions provided to the organization.
  • Utilizing your ability to lead and work collaboratively across diverse teams, you will provide leadership, guidance and direction over activities related to the design, planning and implementation of Talent Programs projects for example, a national onboarding program, an employee recognition strategy, HR software implementation. 
  • Focusing on your ability to develop and implement effective programs, strategies, and procedures, you will direct the teams in the department to ensure consistent national services with a vision for the future – a proactive view of the functions looking to be best in class. 
  • Utilizing your exceptional relationship building skills, you will collaborate with the People Culture and Performance leadership team to define, plan, and execute divisional strategies and plans. 
  • Leveraging your excellent communication and presentation skills, you will communicate deliverables in accordance with divisional and corporate processes and present at Executive Management as well as Board Talent Management meetings. 

Desired education and skills

  • A minimum of 10 years comprehensive and varied experience in a related field, including 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience leading direct and indirect reports.
  • Meaningful experience in a unionized environment, preferably in a regulated (GMP manufacturing) or health care setting, including strategic planning, program development and implementation, managing people and budgets. 
  • Change management experience in guiding managers to create an environment that facilitates and encourages positive change. 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location a minimum of 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • Travel will be required, at a minimum, on a quarterly basis to other Canadian Blood Services centres.
