What will be your daily pursuit?:
As a part of the Glacier Adventure team, Driver trainers provide in-depth driving and operational training to team members. A Driver Trainer is responsible for training and ensuring all operators are safely operating various types of coach buses, unique Ice Explorers and fleet vehicles while delivering high-quality interpretive tour content in a professional and interactive manner, meeting the service goals and expectations of Pursuit.
Compensation:
The starting wage for this role is $26.50 per hour.

What will you do in this job?:
  • Training team members through various stages of the Columbia Icefield Adventure Driver Training Program, which involves:
    • Class 2 Operation of Coach Busses
    • Proper operation of the unique Ice Explorers
    • All Columbia Icefield Operational Policies and Procedures pertaining to the Driver Guide role
    • Providing routine reports to the Department Manager and Supervisor on progress, issues and training feedback
    • Empower new drivers in driving to road and weather conditions, use of transmission, gears, brakes, transmission retarder, etc.
  • Providing effective coaching and feedback to staff, observing and reporting any positive items or issues to the Department Manager or Supervisor while in the field
  • Assisting the Department Manager and Supervisor with various duties when necessary. Some office duties such as scheduling will be required.
  • Giving tours to guests on the Ice Explorers and Shuttles as required when the Training Program is completed for all staff
  • Mechanical pre-trip/post-trip and reporting of assigned Coach or Ice Explorer
  • Responsible for the safe and proper operation/care and upkeep of your Coach/Ice Explorer throughout the operating day including;
    • Daily servicing/cleaning of the interior/exterior of assigned Coach or Ice Explorer and assisting as required for exterior cleaning
    • Ensuring all windows are kept clear and clean throughout the operating day
    • Avoiding both physical and mechanical damage to the equipment
    • Ensuring passengers are not in areas where vehicles are moving and properly seated during the tour
  • Responsible for safely loading and unloading passengers on your coach being at the coach entrance at all times when passengers are loading/unloading
  • Rotation schedule of bus washing, interior and exterior
  • Rotating cleaning schedule of the Transfer Bay area’s, including washroom area and garbage clean up
  • Supporting Colleagues and Loading Staff with additional interpretive information, managing tour groups, tour departures and arrivals, loading and unloading of Coaches and Ice Explorers
  • Communicate with co-workers and management, forward observations and comments in a timely fashion
  • Uphold the high standard of environmental stewardship expected for all employees
  • Other duties as assigned
What skills and experience do you need for this job?:
  • Class 2 driver’s license with Q (airbrake) endorsement, required
  • Previous training and or leadership experience an asset
  • Knowledge of Prevost H3-45, MCI 4500 and Ice Explorers an asset
  • Familiar with all associated information, policies and procedures relative to the Columbia Icefield Adventure Department an asset
  • Effective communication skills via verbal, email, Microsoft office (word, excel)
    • Able to provide effective, constructive training feedback to department staff, regularly identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement
  • Ability to think outside the box with a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of patience and awareness, being able to match the training to the individual while paying close attention to their confidence level and ability while operating equipment
  • Able to set a performance standard of excellence while operating in the field
  • Second language, an asset
  • Fluent and articulate in English, able to communicate and comprehend over two-way radio, required;
  • Must be capable of manual duties (bend, stoop, squat and stretch)
  • Commitment to become an interpretive expert and ambassador through the completion of a week-long interpretive training program (provided upon starting employment)
  • Mature, energetic, dependable and self-motivated
  • Enjoy working with a team in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Must enjoy working outdoors, even in challenging mountain weather conditions
  • Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods in an outdoor environment. Be prepared for inclement weather (Snow, Rain, Wind, Hail)
  • Must meet the Organization grooming and appearance standards

  • Standard First-Aid or higher an asset
