Early Childhood Educator

Step Above Learning Society is looking for Early Childhood Educators to join our team. Our first childcare center opened on July 4th, 2023.

We are hiring educators for the following positions:

• Kindercare Room (4 years – 5 years)

Our Early Childhood Educators plan, organize, and initiate activities to help children develop and learn intellectually, physically, and emotionally. They work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers in a variety of settings. They also build relationships with parents and other professionals.

As an educator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day care of the children using our programs. This includes but is not limited to the following:

• Plan, implement, and evaluate materials, activities, and settings for children.
• Strive to meet the social, physical, intellectual, creative, cultural, emotional, and developmental needs and interests of all children, including children with special needs.
• Encourage play-based learning rooted in children's interests and foster their desire to learn.
• Establish routines and guidance for positive behaviour that:

*Allows children to feel secure, comfortable, and safe*Builds children's social and interpersonal skills and positive self-concept*Encourages co-learning, co-seeking, and problem-solving skills*Helps to establish the child's self-image as a strong, capable citizen

• Document attained skills through words and pictures for the children and their families.
• Establish and maintain professional communication with children's families and community agencies involved in children's development.
• Keep records on individual children, including attendance, daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered.
• Support children in personal health habits, like eating, resting, dressing and toilet habits.
• Organize and store toy materials to ensure activity areas are tidy.
• Perform housekeeping duties, like laundry, cleaning, and sanitizing toys and play equipment.
• Accompany children on field trips and daily outside outings.
• Maintain a safe play environment. As an educator, you must have the ability to obtain the following:
• Alberta childcare certification, Level 1, 2 or 3
• Alberta first aid certificate (or willing to obtain)
• Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector (newer than six months of hire date)
• Intervention Record Check

This is a full-time position. You will care for children aged 12 months – 5 years. A key part of the role is planning, implementing, and evaluating high-quality, flexible, innovative educational programs for children.

Our family support programs will support families by offering non-judgmental, trauma-informed support. Our family support workers will advocate with and mentor families on topics related to the education system, behaviour guidance, and exceptionalities. We will work with other community services to obtain the best possible way to meet the needs of our families.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $16.00-$26.52 per hour
