Pauquachin First Nation is seeking to hire an Ecological Restoration Technician. Operating under the direct supervision of the Marine Manager (Manager) and under the Marine Operations Supervisor, Marine Fisheries Supervisor or the Marine Scientific Supervisor for guidance, scheduling and direction for day-to-day activities, the Ecological Restoration Technician works on traditional food shellfish and water quality restoration efforts related to increasing accessibility to the marine environment by the Pauquachin First Nation.
Education and Experience
· Degree or diploma in a related discipline such as Ecological Restoration, Ecosystem Restoration, Restoration of Natural Systems, or Biological Sciences;
· Experience in methodologies and processes for shellfish-specific restoration and monitoring;
· Experience interpreting survey results;
· Experience in water quality improvement methods and restoration tactics in estuarine or marine environments.
· Experience working with cross-functional groups;
· Experience developing and presenting reports;
· Experience working with a First Nation organization an asset;
· Experience operating navigation aids and software such as Tide and Current Tables, GIS, GPS, sonar, radar and navigation software or the willingness to undergo training;
· Experience operating power boats up to 15 tons or 12 meters or willingness to undergo training;
· Must possess or undergo training for the following certificates: Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP); Restricted Radio Telephone Operator/VHF; MED-SDVBS (Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety), and Marine First Aid certificates;
· Valid Class 5 driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract and reliable vehicle is required;
· Valid WHMIS, standard first aid and CPR certificates or the willingness to undergo training;
· Clean criminal record check required.
