The Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB), belongs to the Secwepemc Nation and is a member of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council (SNTC), which consists of 10 Secwepemc Bands. Over the past decades, ALIB has grown tremendously, which has driven the charge for significant changes within the community. They have developed new tools to deliver services in a changing world, which has resulted in more and varied opportunities to create and advance band programs, develop economic initiatives and to provide meaningful employment to more families. The various departments work as a collective team; dedicated to providing successful programs while carrying out their roles and responsibilities. They strive to create an atmosphere of trust and respect that honors the Secwepemc culture.
Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking one fulltime permanent Education Assistant to join the team at Chief Atahm School. The Education Assistant will work under the direction of the Resource Teacher to offer small group and individual assistance in the Intermediate Program (Grades 5 & 6) and will assist with Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Art, Technology and P.E.
DUTIES INCLUDE
- Provide individual and small group instruction
- Participates in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process
- Assists in collecting student progress data, and prepares written reports as requested
- Assists the teacher with developing learning resources, attendance & scheduling
- Provide supervision and care of children in and out of the classroom, including field trips
- Prepares classroom materials as directed and assists with projects as well as clean up
- Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWELDGE AND SKILLS
- Strong Math and English Skills
- Organization and Time Management
- Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite
- Experience in an outdoor education (would be an asset)
- Emergency Child Safe/First Aid certificate (would be an asset)
- EA Certificate or equivalent (would be an asset)
OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (REQUIRED DOCUMENTS)
· Emergency Child Safe/First Aid certificate
· Criminal records check with vulnerable sector clearance
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
· Full time permanent position
· Wage offered will be dependent on education and experience varying from $22 to $26 per hour.
· Upon completion of probation ALIB offers comprehensive Benefits and a Pension Plan.
· Hours per week: 60 hours biweekly (max 30 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
Position will remain open until a suitable candidate is available.
