Function and Purpose of Position:
As the Electronics Technician at Parkland School Division (PSD), you will operate under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to perform various electronics and communication maintenance tasks across various PSD locations. This includes installation, repair, replacement, testing, and programming of electronic systems related to closed-circuit television (CCTV), school bus radio systems, vehicle Global Positioning System (GPS), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card systems on vehicles, vehicle camera systems, vehicle proximity warning systems, electronic inventory management for school buses, school bus extended stop arms, projectors, building management systems, HVAC systems, security systems, and other related duties as assigned.
Typical Duties:
- Installation, repair, replacement, testing, and programming of electronic systems as mentioned above.
- Maintenance and management of electronic inventory related to school buses.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 vehicle driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Electrical Engineering Technology Certificate or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- 1 to 3 years of related experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and email.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.
- Experience performing routine maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good health and physical fitness.
- Ability to take direction and work independently.
- Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Ability to routinely lift items weighing up to 50 lbs; sometimes, heavier lifting may be required.
- Ability to climb, crawl, crouch, lift, and move materials and equipment weighing more than 50
lbs with the use of proper equipment or teamwork.
- Ability to climb stairs/ladders frequently to varying heights and work in tight spaces.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work regularly.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
- Basic understanding of construction safe work practices and procedures.
- Ability to identify hazards, detail controls, and articulate specific practices to minimize accidents
and injuries.
- Ability to work with demanding timelines in a team-oriented environment.

- Electronics Technicians must agree to respect the confidentiality and personal integrity of
students, parents, teachers, and other staff.
This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.
This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 955 Collective Agreement.
