Reporting to the Superintendent of Site Engineering and Dam Construction, the Chief Projects Engineer is responsible for design, scheduling, costing and execution of mine-site and concentrator projects with the objective of optimizing the safe and efficient mining and processing of Highland Valley Copper ore reserves.
To be successful, we require someone with a strong project management and engineering background, with experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in a similar industrial environment. This is a key role for the site that will lead an assortment of technical and construction management projects. The chief is also responsible to lead the team in keeping a high standard in the application of best engineering practices aligned with EGBC's requirements and Teck's Professional Practice Management Plan.
Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety, sustainability, and environmental requirements, procedures and best practices
  • Lead and monitor project progress, collaborating closely with internal and contractor teams to develop the Scope of Work (SOW) for the Engineering Work Packages (EWP) and ensure procedures, specifications, and deliverables are met
  • Interpret technical requirements of the design documents to provide clear understanding and proper implementation of requirements
  • Develop the departmental budget and monitor expenditures, consultants deliverables and prepare cost and variance reports on projects;
  • Coordinates and facilitates the creation of appropriation requests for site betterment and capital projects;
  • Participate in annual planning cycle activities and site-wide forecasts;
  • Lead weekly project team meetings and attend leadership team meetings
  • Leads a team of multidisciplinary professionals, setting goals and objectives and mentoring engineering team members through personal and professional development planning, coaching and recognition

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • A Professional Engineering (P. Eng) designation, registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Minimum 10 years successful experience in engineering management roles on major infrastructure, mining and/or process plant projects

Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
