As the Engineer-In-Training, you are responsible for the design and project management of traffic signal construction and/or support/coordination for temporary traffic control. Primary Duties include:
- Design new or modify existing traffic control devices and temporary traffic control for construction projects.
- Project manage traffic control device construction.
- Coordination of temporary traffic control and traffic management for major construction activities, subdivision developments, special events.
- Responsible to ensure plans/designs are in accordance with the City of Calgary Temporary Traffic Control Manual, to safely and efficiently accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Site checks are required.
- Conduct field inspections at various project stages, such as concrete pours, visual inspections during construction and final inspections to ensure site safety and that the new infrastructure is operating properly.
- Assist in the creation of reports or other written documents such as construction tenders and request for proposal documents.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering (preferably Civil Engineering), and current licensure as an EIT with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or licensure by the first day of work.
- A valid Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending, and a personal vehicle for business purposes is required.
- Preference will be given to applicants with coursework or previous experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning and/or roadway capacity analysis.
- Previous project management experience, or experience with traffic operations and/or transportation planning software such as Synchro, Vissim or Sidra will be considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proven relationship management, consulting and teamwork expertise.
- The ability to follow directions; interpret and understand technical information; and efficiently prioritize work will be essential for success in this role.
