We are hiring a full time, permanent Engineer in Training, Transmission Assets position working out of Edmonton, AB. This position reports to the Manager, Transmission Asset Management.
The Engineer in Training (EIT), Transmission Assets is accountable for assisting in the Asset Management of EPCOR’s Electricity Transmission assets including substations and transmission lines to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our system that our communities count on. You will ensure assets are inspected, tested, repaired and updated in the Asset Registry.
This position may also involve rotations through other areas of Distribution or Transmission. These rotations will be committed timeframes of not less than four working months and the duties specific to that area will be defined by the area manager.
This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program.
What you’d be responsible for
- Contributing to the Transmission Asset Management plans and directions, and assisting in the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics.
- Helping to develop, implement and review Transmission Asset Management processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and the mitigation of risks.
- Monitoring the health of EPCOR Electricity assets, including auditing and editing relevant asset health indicators inside Transmission Asset Management’s asset database.
- Working with the team to demonstrate Transmission's compliance when completing AESO Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) audits, including Information Requests (IRs) and executing compliance plans for all ARS standards applicable to Transmission.
- Supporting Operations’ crews as they perform maintenance and repair activities.
- Working with Technologists and Asset Managers to determine life cycle replacement requirements, including writing narratives, business cases and post implementation reviews in support of General Tariff Applications.
- Providing technical support to internal and external groups within the context of the Asset Management group.
- Demonstrating a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
What’s required to be successful
- Engineer in training with B.Sc. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Fluid Systems, Communications or Power System Engineering options are considered an asset.
- 0-2 years of experience in Transmission & Distribution systems, such as Asset Management, Alberta Reliability Standards compliance and equipment specifications and commissioning requirements.
- Familiarity with electric transmission systems.
- Knowledge of IEEE and Electrical Utility standards is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Alberta Reliability Standards is an asset.
- Experience in Asset Management considered an asset.
- Experience with computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, engineering applications, drafting, and field equipment).
- Ability to contribute in a team environment and to learn from professional engineers and technologists.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels in the organization.
