Job description

Terms of Employment: Full-time, Permanent Position

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, or 7-days on, 7-days off rotation with 12-hour workdays, depending on specific location assignment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Environmental Manager in day-to-day compliance activities and tasks.
  • Oversee field programs, including condition and commitment compliance tracking.
  • Manage contractors and review technician reports before government submission.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Conuma Environmental policies, standards, management plans, and regulatory requirements.
  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all aspects of the organization's activities.
  • Maintain a high level of environmental awareness among the workforce by conducting meetings and actively participating in planned environmental programs and drills.
  • Coordinate the implementation of environmental monitoring programs, including data assimilation, interpretation, and scheduling.
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring programs and conduct field site inspections to assess environmental risks.
  • Provide advice, resources, and assistance to contractors in the interpretation of company environmental systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the Environmental Management System (EMS) by conducting ongoing document reviews and revisions as required.
  • Facilitate liaison with government, stakeholders, and First Nations on a project-specific basis.Other duties as required.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth/Environmental Science, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Five (5) years of experience in implementing technical environmental programs, with experience in supervisory or management role.
  • Broad experience in environmental aspects of the mining industry, such as water quality, air quality, environmental effects monitoring, permitting, regulatory liaison, and consultation with stakeholders and First Nations.
  • Proficiency in working with diverse teams, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff, to achieve operational objectives, manage risks, meet corporate requirements, and ensure compliance.
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies, First Nations, and other stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems.

Technical Competencies & Skills

  • Experience in implementing technical environmental programs related to resource development, preferably in the mining sector.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation relevant to mining in BC, including the BC Mines Act, BC Environmental Management Act, Federal Fisheries Act, Federal Species at Risk Act, and BC Wildlife Act.
  • Competency in leading practice risk assessment and management approaches.
  • Proficiency in implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent project and process management skills.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff.
  • Proficiency in communication with regulators, First Nations, and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding and application of leading practice techniques and technologies in environmental management at mining sites.
  • Ability to adhere to the assigned work schedule, which may include either a 5x2 schedule or a 7x7 rotation with 12-hour shifts.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Proven safety and attendance record.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with peers, trainees, and leadership.

Wage and Benefits

Specifically for the Environmental Coordinator role, we offer an annual base salary range of $90,000.00 - $100,000.00, along with a variety of bonuses. These bonuses include monthly efficiency bonuses linked to safety and production, quarterly retention bonuses, and a performance bonus tailored to reward your contributions. Our benefits package also includes paid vacation and personal days, 7% RRSP matching, and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental care, among other valuable perks.
