Environmental Summer Student

Torxen Oil & Gas Ltd. is a private fast paced, dynamic Oil and Gas company, located in the south -eastern area of Alberta called the Palliser Block, with the better part of 60,000 BOE/day with a diverse product portfolio consisting of a 60% gas and 40% oil production. Torxen currently has a 4-month primarily field-based opportunity for an Environmental Student within our Environment Group, starting May 1, 2024.

This role can be based out of Brooks, Drumheller or Calgary.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY:

As an Environmental Student, you will be working in our Environment Group, reporting directly to the Reclamation Manager. The primary responsibility of this position is to effectively participate as a team member within the QHSE team while working closely with our operations teams to address and assist with environmental and reclamation programs. This role is designed to introduce and build on essentials skills related to the areas of site closure and environmental compliance, while providing a well-rounded learning experience that goes beyond what is learned in the classroom.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Assist with the set up and coordination of environmental programs
  • Support the team with environmental site assessment projects and tasks
  • Assist with reclamation projects and field activities
  • Coordinate and support the native prairie watering project
  • Gain knowledge and skill with all aspects of the reclamation process, including Phase 1 ESA, Phase 2 ESAs, remediation, reclamation, vegetation management and detailed site assessments.
  • Complete day to day administrative tasks such as record keeping, filing, research, document processing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3rd or 4th year student or a recent graduate, with a focus in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related program
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Understanding of environmental site assessments and reclamation
  • Possession of First Aid and H2S considered an asset
  • Extensive travel to field locations is required (approximately 3-4 days a week)

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Previous field experience is considered an asset
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management with the ability to multitask
  • Diligent with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to identify, follow through and resolve issues with good communication
  • Ability to effectively work independently and within a team environment
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required for this position
