A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Manager, Admissions and Assessment, the Evaluations Specialist is an expert member of the undergraduate admissions team responsible for admissions decisions made on applicant files. The incumbent is expected to know all aspects of the interpretation, implementation and evaluation of different curricula, as well as the admission policies and procedures. The Evaluations Specialist will also ensure the timely evaluation of complex undergraduate admission applications, with preference given to files in Advanced Standing.

As the Evaluations Specialist, you will:

  • Assess and adjudicate applicant files for admissibility for all undergraduate programs;
  • Counsel current and prospective students and their parents/agents with respect to admission requirements and other related issues;
  • Evaluate academic qualifications to determine authenticity;
  • Research and stay current on provincial, national and international curriculum;
  • Develop and recommend strategies and action plans to meet program enrollment targets and to reflect University initiatives;
  • Conduct research on uncommon files, curricula, issues, schools, as well as proactively identifying trends in applicant behaviour or documentation;
  • Act as the first point of Admissions contact for new and prospective transfer pathway partners;
  • Be familiar with all articulation agreements and pathway opportunities for prospective students;
  • Communicate and elaborate on positive and adverse admission decisions and is responsible for the arbitration and/or facilitation of appeals;
  • Adjudicate and/or present and prepare special cases to the Admissions Committee for review.

What you need to Succeed…

  • Undergraduate university degree;
  • Two to five years’ related work experience in a University or College Admissions or Recruitment office or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international educational systems;
  • Knowledge of the related educational process and courses/programs offered at Brock;
  • Experience in making effective decisions and dealing well with ambiguity;
  • Solid computer competency including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web applications and web maintenance, social media and internet search engines;
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, relation-building, and communication skills to interact effective with applicants, staff, faculty and external contacts;
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically when interacting with upset or frustrated individuals;
  • Proven ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential material;
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills, and decision-making skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • Credential evaluation certificates;
  • Public speaking skills an asset.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade J, Salary Scale ($52,920-$90,720)*;
  • Target Hiring Range: $52,920-$55,420;
  • This position includes comprehensive benefits.

*The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
