About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Associate Deputy Minister the Executive Director will provide a critical equity lens on organizational engagement, Equity and Belonging that is needed to advance priorities within Labour, Skills and Immigration (LSI), its agencies and program delivery partners. This role provides expert policy advice, leads the strategic direction and provides operational leadership on the development and implementation of equity, inclusion, and diversity and ensures strategic direction and a framework for organizational health and psychological health and safety for the department as it applies to all business units within LSI i.e.: (Skills and Learning; Corporate Policy and Services; Immigration and Population Growth; Safety Division; Labour Services; Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency) its agencies, and partners.

The Executive Director will work both internally and horizontally, across government, to ensure that LSI's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan, is aligned with key government priorities, the articulated goals of the Public Service Commission, and major policies and strategies such as Nova Scotia's Action Plan in Response to the International Decade for People of African Descent and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action/strategic priorities of Office of L'Nu Affairs.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Principal advisor on all matters relating to diversity/inclusion issues, providing leadership to department/senior management in formulating business plans, mandate and accountability reports, developing policy, and accountability frameworks and identifying strategic priorities and outcomes through a lens of inclusion and diversity in support of cross-department programs, services and initiatives and in support of key corporate policy and planning initiatives.
  • Leads the development and implementation of innovative, leading-edge programs and services to address identified partnerships, collaborative approaches, needs, opportunities, and priorities.
  • Spearheads changes to policies, support strategic direction and amend organizational systems on matters of overall inclusion and diversity. Including developing and leveraging strategic linkages with other departments, stakeholders (eg. NSCC and Universities), and the community to ensure inclusion in program and service design, for equity-deserving people and communities.
  • Provides executive advice and leadership to improve equitable access to training, advancement, and employment opportunities, leads the department in engaging equity-deserving communities to enhance programs, services, and opportunities ensuring that they are assessable for all equity-deserving peoples and communities.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have, at minimum, a bachelor's degree or a professional designation in a related discipline with extensive experience as a leader and a manager of people. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
It would be considered an asset if you are certified in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The position requires deep knowledge and experience in the field of equity, inclusion, diversity, engagement, social service systems as they relate to diversity and inclusion with historically marginalized groups and related communities/stakeholders.

Through strong leadership both to its multi-functional team and department colleagues, is relied upon to lead/guide efforts to ensure strategic relationships, key negotiations excellence, and informed strategic and corporate advice on all levels of programs, services, and initiatives in the department.

You also possess a high level of creativity. You enjoy working with individuals and teams and you have a demonstrated ability to identify innovative, inclusive solutions. You are an exceptional listener and communicator (verbal and written) with experience in leading strategy and program development and implementation.

Pay Grade:EC 15

Salary Range:$4,740.95 - $5,926.16 Bi-Weekly
