Job description

The mission of Egg Farmers of Ontario (EFO) is to provide consumers with a supply of safe, high-quality eggs at a fair price and a return to egg and pullet farmers achieved through fair farm pricing, within a stable national supply management system. This is accomplished through the efficient management of the production of eggs, research, product promotion and ongoing marketing activities.

Egg Farmers of Ontario currently has an opportunity for a Field Inspector to join the Operations team.

General Overview:

Field Inspectors are responsible for inspecting and ensuring conformance to quality standards and compliance with provincial and federal laws and regulations that govern the health, quality and safety of Eggs. Field inspectors educate and support farmers by applying a wide range of concepts, practices and procedures specific within the Egg industry.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visit regulated quota holding egg producers in their territory to physically count (when possible) the number of birds on the premises to ensure that there are no birds in excess of the allowable quota.
  • If a physical count is not possible, a record review will be completed.
  • Perform recounts when discrepancies exist
  • Record all pertinent data during all producer visits and refer the information to the Board office, including flock disposal.
  • Perform Salmonella tests for both layer and pullet flocks. Determine the flock disposal dates for layer hens or dates pullets are moving to layer barns and where they are going to.
  • Engage with new entrants in the industry and provide the necessary support to guarantee a successful start to egg and pullet farming.
  • Attend required training for Health and Safety purposes.
  • Maintain an awareness of Board issues and communicate and/or implement program updates to producers/farmers.
  • Attend and assist with general Board functions such as the Annual Meeting, Zone meetings, etc., when requested.
  • Participate when requested to be part of FBCC or EFO emergency response team during disease outbreaks, and any training that is associated with these activities (i.e. First Aid, IMS, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work model with about 75% of the time spent on interacting with producers/farmers on their farms and the other 25% working from a home office communicating with industry partners.
  • Assist other team members, as needed
  • Perform other duties, special projects or assignments as assigned

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in an agricultural field is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of work experience in a poultry/agriculture role would be an asset.
