Summary
The Field Service Technician involves performing emergency services, preventative maintenance, and repairs for customer/client generators.
Responsibilities include testing electrical components, programming transfer switches, troubleshooting control systems, conducting startups and load bank tests, and operating/diagnosing engine-driven gensets.
Building positive customer relationships, maintaining tools and materials, and effective communication with a supervisor are essential. The role also includes completing service and equipment performance reports.
What You’ll Do – The Role:
- Perform emergency service, preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and instruction for customer generators as efficiently as possible.
- Test, measure, and verify electrical component operations, including energized components and electrical fields.
- Program, test, connect transfer switches and trouble shoot both generators and synchronizing controls system.
- Conduct startups and load bank tests as required.
- Operate / diagnose engine driven gensets powered by diesel or natural gas.
- Build strong customer relationships by engaging in positive, professional communications.
- Maintain all company tools and materials, including an accurate inventory of parts.
- Communicate with the Supervisor on all aspects of service.
- Complete required service and equipment performance reports as required.
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be required.
What You Need
- A valid Ontario class G driver’s license in good standing.
- Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude, skills, and/or experience is required.
- Availability for overtime and on-call rotation
- Ability to attain and maintain security clearances.
- Post-secondary schooling e.g., Power Generation, Certified Mechanic, etc. is an asset.
- Comfortable using MS Office suite including Outlook suite.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- In the case of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of Government, be available for work.
Working Conditions
- Travelling to Ottawa once per month (or as requested by the Field Service Manager)
- Weekly check-ins via teams and/or calls with the Field Service Manager are required.
- The first week of initial training will take place at the G.A.L Ottawa office.
- After hours On-Call – Required
- Heavy lifting and physical exertion are required.
- Ability to work irregular hours / overtime.
- Full time position plus approved OT
- Willing to work locally and throughout the Province of Ontario
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $25.00-$40.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
